Job description

Job ID: 10579929 | Amazon Web Services, Inc.

The Amazon Web Services Professional Services (ProServe) team is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Engagement Manager (EM) to join our team and lead the delivery of complex cloud solution projects. In this role, you will combine technical expertise with strong project leadership skills to drive successful implementations of AWS-based solutions for our clients. You will bridge business requirements with technical solutions, facilitating technical discussions and ensuring alignment with customer outcomes. Applying AWS frameworks like Well-Architected and Cloud Adoption Framework while demonstrating technical credibility across diverse stakeholders, you will distill customer needs into clear technical requirements, decompose complex problems, and make informed trade-off decisions considering performance, scalability, security, and business impact. Possessing strong technology and program/project management experience, you will validate technical solutions against business goals, recognize when additional technical evaluation is needed, and manage technical risks. You will be expected to achieve and maintain relevant AWS certifications, develop domain-specific expertise, and effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and business audiences. As you progress, you’ll lead increasingly complex technical projects, shape cross-organizational technical strategies, and establish best practices in your domain. In this role you will apply your management and leadership capabilities to successfully execute project plans, proactively identify and manage risks, resolve issues, elevate when appropriate, and drive projects to successful completion, while exceeding customer expectations.

Key job responsibilities

As an experienced technology program/project manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing complex cloud migration and implementation projects

  • Leveraging comprehensive knowledge of AWS services, architectures, and best practices to guide technical decisions and strategic planning

  • Bridging business requirements with technical solutions, facilitating engineering discussions and ensuring alignment with customer business outcomes

  • Distilling customer needs into clear technical requirements and map them to business outcomes

  • Decomposing complex technical problems into actionable, deliverable solutions

  • Contributing to technical documentation and define documentation standards

A day in the life

  • Owning delivery of complex, outcome-based cloud and AI programs end to end, accountable for customer business outcomes, delivery quality and commercial performance

  • Working with sales and solution architects before signature to shape scope, define measurable outcomes and acceptance criteria, and confirm what we commit to is deliverable

  • Negotiating scope, milestones and trade-offs with customer executives, and managing fixed-price engagements through disciplined change control, earned-value tracking and margin protection

  • Managing engagement revenue and financial health: forecasting revenue against milestones, maintaining an accurate estimate at completion, driving timely milestone acceptance and billing, and identifying expansion opportunities that grow the customer relationship

  • Leading delivery teams that use AI across the lifecycle (requirements, design, code generation, testing and operations), and applying enough technical depth to challenge AI-generated output and make informed trade-offs on security, performance, scalability and cost

  • Orchestrating mixed teams of AWS builders, AWS Partner Network partners and customer-selected integrators to a single quality bar, with clear accountability, consistent acceptance criteria and automated quality gates

  • Driving customer-side change management and adoption, so the organization realizes the value of what we build

  • Reporting progress to senior stakeholders in terms of business value delivered, and acting on leading indicators of risk (velocity, environment stability, partner quality, team health) before they become escalations

  • Contributing reusable assets, patterns and AI-enabled delivery practices that make each engagement faster and more repeatable than the last
