Principal Embedded Software Engineer
Silvus Technologies is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer, reporting to the Director of Software Engineering. The role will drive the development of embedded firmware for Silvus’ MANET radios across all aspects of the system, including device drivers, networking functions, encryption, and security features. The position is located at Silvus Technologies’ headquarters in West Los Angeles, CA, with a hybrid schedule that requires a minimum of three onsite days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays).
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead architectural design and development of low‑latency embedded firmware on ARM‑based SoCs (e.g., UltraScale+), and optimize Linux‑based networking stacks for wireless applications.
- Implement the software portion of MAC (Medium Access Control) and mobile ad‑hoc networking routing protocols.
- Develop network management software and web interface.
- Implement security protocols and encryption algorithms.
- Implement audio streaming and push‑to‑talk voice applications.
- Analyze and improve product security and robustness to meet mandates such as NIST FIPS 140‑3 and NIAP Common Criteria.
- Develop testing software for product performance and reliability testing.
- Develop device driver and board support package for both ARM and RISC‑V systems.
- Customize and script Linux systems.
- Perform other related duties as representative of duties described.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 8+ years of embedded system software development experience.
- Hands‑on and lead expertise designing and developing embedded firmware using Linux on ARM processors for networking, signal processing, and/or wireless applications.
- Expertise in C programming and Linux kernel driver development.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- All employment contingent upon successful background check and drug test.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of security protocols and encryption algorithms, including CNSA algorithm suites.
- Experience with socket programming and Internet/Ethernet protocols.
- Understanding of the MAC and networking layers of a communication system.
- Experience with AMD UltraScale+ MPSoC and Microchip Polarfire SoC board support package development.
- Deep understanding of IPsec, network protocols, data authentication, and encryption.
- Linux interrupt service routine development.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Office environment.
- Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens during field tests.
- Physical tasks: lift up to 20 lbs for set‑up of demonstrations, perform bending and reaching movements, kneel or squat for lower shelves, walk and move in labs.
Compensation
The pay range for this role is $180,000 – $220,000 USD, depending on experience and qualifications.
