Job summary

Job description

Go as deep as embedded software goes- boot architecture, BSP development, and kernel drivers - and then send your work to space.

You'll be a senior voice on the embedded software side, working in C and C++ across hardware that's used in space. Your day to day work will be board support packages, platform bring up, kernel drivers, boot architectures, and the low level software to ensure everything does what it should.

You'll be working at the boundary between hardware and software - there's FPGA and CPU systems talking via PCIe, with a lot of I/O to think about. If you're an engineer that loves working close to the hardware, there's plenty of interesting technical challenges here.

Within the small technical team you'll be working in, you will play a lead role. You'll be setting the architectural direction and providing mentorship for junior engineers. The role is primed for growth - this is a key hire, and there are plenty of projects coming down the pipeline for you to get your teeth into.

This role is based on site in the Herndon, Virginia, area. The base salary for this role is in the range of $170k to $195k, dependent on experience, plus a range of benefits including comprehensive health coverage.

What you'll be doing

• Taking new boards from power on to a working Linux platform
• Writing and integrating kernel drivers across interfaces that the hardware is using - PCIe, DMA, GPIO, and networking
• Owning the architectural calls around boot strategy, software updates, and fault handling
• Tuning the performance critical paths, particularly where data crosses between the processor and the FPGA
• Working across the FPGA and CPU boundary, and defining how they converse over PCIe
