Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems in Chandler, AZ is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer (Level 3) to lead circuit design for avionics in Launch Vehicles. You will perform digital/mixed-signal design, component selection for radiation environments, and write comprehensive design and test documentation.

Collaboration with senior engineers is essential in a fast-paced Agile setting, with DoD clearance expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's with 5 years’ digital / mixed signal design experience or Master’s with 3 years’ experience.
  • Capable of following department design standards.
  • Proficient with Jira and Git in Agile projects.
  • Experience with schematic capture and board layout.
  • Familiar with microprocessor or FPGA circuit design.
  • Proficient with circuit simulation (PSpice or LTSpice).
  • Hardware troubleshooting and software debugging.
  • Ability to generate design documents and procedures.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Active Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop circuits for programs at the board level.
  • Perform detailed digital and mixed-signal circuit design and simulation to verify designs meet requirements.
  • Select components to meet radiation and environment constraints.
  • Write design and test documentation including analyses, specifications, and procedures.

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer - Level 3 - Avionics Design Group within Launch Vehicles business unit at the Chandler, AZ facility.

As a member of the circuit design team, you’ll be responsible for circuit design and development for programs. You will perform detailed board-level digital and mixed signal circuit design, circuit analysis and simulation to verify as-designed circuit response meets requirement criteria. You will select component parts for the design to meet stringent environments, including radiation effects. You will evaluate completed design with more senior engineers and other technical groups and make modifications necessary to achieve a design that satisfies requirements. Write design and test documentation including analyses, specifications, user manuals, test procedures, etc. You will support the qualification testing phase by developing test procedures and reports. You may also oversee, with senior engineer oversight, component supplier design, analysis, manufacture, and test.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors with 5 years’ digital / mixed signal design experience or Masters with 3 years’ experience.
  • Must be capable of understanding and adhering to department design standards.
  • Ability to work in an Agile project format, team-based environment, including Jira and Git environments.
  • Experience with Schematic capture and board layout
  • Familiarity with microprocessor and/or FPGA circuit design.
  • Proficiency with circuit simulation including PSpice or LTSpice.
  • Experienced in hardware troubleshooting / software debugging. Physical testing experience including lab measurement (oscilloscope, signal/function generator, logic analyzer, etc).
  • Experience generating design documents, specifications, user's manuals, test plans and procedures.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Active Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Cadence, Matlab, VHDL, Python.
  • Familiarity with circuit design for military/space environments.
  • Active U.S. Government Security Clearance is preferred.

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
