Job description

About the company

The company is a global consulting firm that partners with leaders to drive change and create value. With deep industry expertise, and enabled by advanced technology, the firm helps clients to deliver with greater confidence and certainty. With over 2,000 people across the UK, Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, the firm combines global insight with local understanding.

The firm works across energy and resources, financial services, government and public sector, consumer products and retail, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, manufacturing, and technology, media and telecoms, with capabilities spanning strategy, transformation and operational excellence – all powered by advanced technology, data, AI and digital innovation.

Clients value the company’s collaborative approach and the way its teams integrate seamlessly – all working with a shared understanding of what matters most. The firm is known for its kind, curious experts who listen closely and care deeply about client success as they help clients transform energy markets, modernise financial platforms, expand telecoms and digital networks through advanced data analytics, enable digital services in government, and unlock growth in consumer sectors.

Certified as a Great Place to Work around the world, the company has been recognised by the Financial Times in 22 categories of its UK Leading Management Consultants rankings, and by Forbes for four consecutive years as one of the World’s Best Management Consulting Firms.

Our Technology and Cyber team are looking for an experienced Database and Analytics Engineer to join the team.

the company has grown so fast, and it continues to grow rapidly. Those new joiners keep on coming! We are a global function supporting the firm as it enters new markets. We are re-architecting and evolving our cloud-based business systems and infrastructure. We are on a mission to develop great technology products, deliver great services, and protect the trust our people and clients place in us. We have installed a new operating system for ourselves, and rebooted what was a corporate IT department into a corporate technology company, transforming the way we work.

Now we are building for the next era of work. AI is becoming part of the fabric of how the company operates, and we are developing the products and platforms that will help colleagues find knowledge, act on insight, navigate complexity, and get work done with greater speed, quality, and confidence. Some of this will be visible through intelligent experiences and agentic systems. Some of it will sit beneath the surface: data products, workflow platforms, integrations, automations, cyber security, governance, and the architecture that makes all of it safe, scalable, resilient, and useful.

So much to build on, so much to progress. So much to deliver. So much to play for!

Do you know what though? We are going to do it. All of it and more. We have the support to drive change. We have the belief. We are going to do great things. Come and join us!

What you will be doing
  • We are on a business systems modernization journey. You will help evolve and engineer the data, analytics and application solutions that underpin critical processes and products across the firm, balancing operational excellence with future scalability.
  • As a Principal Database & Analytics Engineer within the Technology Product team, you will take a hands‑on role in designing, building and supporting robust data and application solutions that deliver measurable business value.
  • Lead the engineering, optimisation and continuous improvement of our database estate, ensuring performance, resilience, security and maintainability remain at the heart of everything we build.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Engineers and business stakeholders to modernise legacy solutions, reducing technical debt and enabling more scalable, supportable and cloud‑ready platforms.
  • Design and deliver meaningful reporting, analytics and data products that improve decision making and unlock insight across the firm.
  • Build and support business‑critical applications, integrating data, automation and user experiences into solutions that solve real business problems.
  • Act as a technical authority for database and analytics engineering, establishing best practice, mentoring colleagues and raising engineering standards across our Technology & Cyber function.
  • Whilst this is an engineering role, we are a multi‑skilled team. Providing proof of concepts, solving complex technical challenges and rolling up your sleeves to deliver great outcomes will be a core part of the role.
Your skills and experience
  • Deep expertise in SQL Server and database engineering, including performance optimisation, schema design, data modelling and operational support.
  • Strong knowledge of relational database design principles, normalisation and data modelling.
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views and functions.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude with the ability to analyse complex datasets and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of DAX and Power Query (M language).
  • Experience working with Azure SQL Managed Instance (MI) – including configuration, connectivity, authentication, security and troubleshooting integration with cloud‑based systems
  • Performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
  • Experience with ETL processes and data integration.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and information security principles.
  • Familiarity with source control and software development lifecycle practices.
  • Strong experience delivering business applications, integrations and data‑driven solutions that solve complex organisational challenges.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into well‑engineered technical solutions.
  • Experience designing and supporting reporting and analytics capabilities, ideally including Power BI and modern Microsoft data technologies including Fabric.
  • Ability to work across technical and non‑technical audiences, adapting communication style to suit the stakeholder and situation.
  • Comfortable working in Agile environments and collaborating closely with Product Owners, Engineers and business stakeholders.
  • Self‑motivated, hands‑on and able to balance strategic thinking with delivery‑focused execution.
