Job summary

Google Search is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to drive understanding of the evolving voice of the user and tackle broad, existential problems for the future of Search.

You will collaborate with executive partners to build systems and products that impact billions of users globally, using data to guide strategy and measure impact.

This role centers on advancing AI-powered search experiences, with a comprehensive benefits package and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of experience in data science or related quantitative fields such as statistics, machine learning, software engineering, or ML engineering.
• Experience using data insights to drive product and engineering excellence.
• Master's degree or PhD in Data Science or Statistics preferred.
• Experience building 0 to 1 products as well as working on established products.
• Strong leader able to influence outcomes through collaboration rather than authority.

Responsibilities

• Build a strong measurement framework for broadly defined problems to orient efforts correctly.
• Identify and prioritize the most important levers to add user value across surfaces.
• Establish standards for depth of understanding and accuracy for the Search Data Science org.
• Build operating pictures for cross-cutting areas (eg. AI experiences) and align the org around clarity and expertise.
