Job summary

Barry-Wehmiller Design Group in Dallas, TX seeks a Principal, Architecture + Engineering for Life Sciences and Data Center projects. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, drive design from programming through construction documents, and oversee client engagements to deliver high-quality solutions.

The role requires 10+ years in facilities architectural and engineering design, strong knowledge of code studies, ISO clean rooms, and experience with Revit/AutoCAD. Travel support provided.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years of facilities architectural & engineering design experience, with ability to lead the facility design from programming through construction documents.
• Prior working knowledge of code studies/evaluations for life science facilities and hazardous/classified areas.
• Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes (IBC in particular).
• Experience in development and creation of construction documents for life sciences.
• Experience in design of ISO clean rooms, labs, and processing spaces.
• Experience coordinating design with process engineers on industrial installations of production equipment (preferred).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to interact effectively with team and clients.
• Willingness to travel for project requirements including installation, meetings, trainings, and industry events.
• Licensed professional Engineer or Architect.

Responsibilities

You will join our Architecture/Engineering Process Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.

What You’ll Do

The Principal position is designed for the firms most accomplished professionals who demonstrate mastery in their field of study and are recognized as a thought leader by external industry professionals as well as within their Design Group practice. Principals are highly sought after by our clients and our project execution teams for their technical expertise. You’ll work individually and in teams to support capital projects and implement solutions for our clients. Together, you will help our clients make critical changes to improve their performance and realize their most important goals.

• Work with engineers, designers, and other professional consultants to design facilities for industrial manufacturing and distribution operations, specially for Life Sciences.


• Develop architectural & engineering solutions for customers’ business needs as part of an integrated project team, including helping the owner or project manager define the facility requirements/program, and understanding customers’ production flow and space environmental needs.


• Lead architectural & engineering design for Data Center projects and work with in-house multi-disciplinary engineering project teams.


• Stamp and sign architectural & engineering construction documents.


• Conduct project site visits and act as a construction administrator.


• Define the facility program requirements based on an understanding of the client’s production process flow and space environmental needs.


• Conduct code research specific to the project site, program, and proposed use.


• Create renderings that communicate concepts to the client.


• Develop the base plan and communicate requirements to other engineering disciplines.


• Research material options or alternative building methods as necessary.


• Develop specifications and oversee preparation of plans and related documents for permit acquisition and construction.


• Answer RFIs and review submittals and shop drawings throughout the pre-construction and construction phases of the project.


• Manage and provide guidance to junior staff.


• Make an impact day-to-day with your skills and expertise, strengthening that relationship with our clients and team.


• Excel at leading technical discussions, can break down complex challenges into simple concepts; strong communication skills.


• Self directed, working effectively without oversight or direction from supervisors.

• Experience in the design of greenfield facilities and in the renovations of existing buildings.


• Experience in the design of ISO clean rooms, labs, and processing spaces.


• Experience in coordinating design with process engineers on industrial installations of production equipment (preferred).


• Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively with our team members and clients.


• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Project.


• A willingness to travel for project requirements including installation and start-up activities, client and company sponsored meetings, trainings, industry related seminars, forums, and conventions.


• Licensed professional Engineer or Architect.
