The role focuses on planning, design development, technical reviews, and standardization of civil systems, with collaboration across engineering consultants, utilities, and permitting authorities.

The ideal candidate will drive engineering excellence, implement design criteria, and mentor teams while supporting sustainability and lifecycle optimization across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
• PE license preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in civil engineering design for data centers and large-scale facilities.
• Strong experience in grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, roadways, and site development.
• Experience as a senior technical contributor on multidisciplinary projects.
• Knowledge of permitting, zoning, environmental regulations, and utility coordination.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and BIM coordination platforms.

Principal Civil Engineer - Data Center Infrastructure

Location: Remote

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join our growing Data Center team.

In this role, you will serve as a senior individual contributor responsible for the planning, design development, technical review, and standardization of civil engineering infrastructure for large-scale, mission-critical data center campuses. You will apply deep civil engineering expertise to establish and continuously improve standards, specifications, design criteria, and delivery frameworks that support scalable, cost-effective, and efficient project development across a growing portfolio.

You will collaborate closely with internal project teams, engineering consultants, contractors, utilities, and permitting authorities while providing technical leadership, resolving complex engineering challenges, and driving consistency and engineering excellence across projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve civil engineering standards, design criteria, specifications, and best practices across data center projects.
• Serve as a senior technical resource for site development, grading, drainage, utility infrastructure, stormwater management, erosion control, access roads, and site logistics planning.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, design approaches, construction methodologies, and vendor solutions to improve project performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Conduct detailed technical reviews of civil engineering deliverables to ensure alignment with company standards, Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), and project objectives.
• Partner with regional design and execution teams to capture lessons learned and implement continuous improvements across future developments.
• Support site due diligence activities, including assessment of land constraints, utility availability, permitting requirements, environmental considerations, and overall development feasibility.
• Coordinate with utility providers, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and permitting authorities to support project development and approvals.
• Perform value engineering analyses and provide recommendations to optimize constructability, project schedules, operational performance, resilience, and lifecycle costs.
• Develop tools, templates, processes, and technical guidance that improve engineering consistency, quality, and efficiency across projects.
• Support standardization of site infrastructure requirements, including roads, utilities, stormwater systems, water supply, wastewater systems, and other critical civil infrastructure.
• Review site layouts and master plans to ensure efficient integration of buildings, infrastructure systems, and future expansion needs.
• Collaborate with architecture, mechanical, electrical, procurement, construction, environmental, and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support sustainability initiatives through responsible land development practices, water management strategies, and resilient infrastructure solutions.
• Provide civil engineering oversight during design, construction, commissioning, and project closeout phases.
• Mentor project teams and engineering partners by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
• Participate in contractor, consultant, and engineering partner evaluations and selection processes.
• Perform additional duties as needed to support project and organizational goals.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in civil engineering design, site development, and infrastructure delivery for data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial, energy, or large-scale commercial projects.
• Strong expertise in grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, roadways, underground infrastructure, and site development.
• Demonstrated experience serving as a senior technical contributor on multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong understanding of land development processes, permitting, zoning, environmental regulations, and utility coordination.
• Knowledge of applicable civil engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS applications, and BIM coordination platforms.
• Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and construction documents.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience collaborating with consultants, contractors, utility providers, regulatory agencies, procurement teams, and operations organizations.

Preferred

• Experience supporting projects across North America and/or Europe.
• Experience with large-scale campus developments, mission-critical facilities, renewable energy infrastructure, or hyperscale data center projects.

Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, geographic location, and market benchmarks. In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for an annual performance bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
