Job description

ATAC is seeking a Principal Aviation Safety Analytics Engineer to support aviation safety research conducted in collaboration with the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center. The position will be based in Santa Clara, CA with a hybrid arrangement, with work available on-site at the technical center, at ATAC offices, or remotely, depending on project needs.

Role Summary

The role will analyze, process, and filter air traffic control and aviation datasets to produce safety metrics and decision support. Responsibilities include building AI/ML-enabled data tools and contributing to user interface and data visualization deliverables that help communicate safety findings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with FAA researchers and laboratory personnel, developers, programmers, contract support, and external research partners including NASA, MITRE, and other universities to advance separations standards analysis capabilities
  • Develop new aviation safety metrics
  • Create data processing tools leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
  • Support data analyses, including automation of analysis processes and report generation
  • Contribute to user interface and visualization development
  • Restructure and process historical data
  • Support development of functional requirements and software documentation
Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 20+ years of related job experience
  • Strong software development skills
  • Proficiency with Big Data analytics
  • Proficiency with cloud-based solutions
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal relations skills
