Full-time · Dallas, Texas (Remote considered) · Periodic International Travel
About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Architect, AI Data Centers to lead the architectural design and technical standards for next-generation, gigawatt-scale AI data center campuses. This role will define repeatable design standards for large-scale AI infrastructure, supporting advanced GPU deployments, high-density computing, liquid cooling, and resilient power systems.
You will serve as the design authority across campus planning, building architecture, power and cooling infrastructure, and hyperscale tenant requirements. The ideal candidate brings deep data center design expertise, hands-on experience with high-density AI/HPC environments, and a proven track record delivering large-scale campuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Campus Architecture: Lead site master planning, building and data hall layouts, and phased development strategies for 100 MW to 1 GW data center campuses.
- AI Infrastructure Design: Develop designs supporting 100–150+ kW per rack, including direct-to-chip liquid cooling, coolant distribution units (CDUs), manifolds, and secondary cooling loops.
- Power Architecture: Define utility and renewable energy interconnections, high- and medium-voltage distribution, UPS systems, and redundancy strategies such as N+1, 2N, and distributed redundant architectures.
- Cooling Systems: Establish heat rejection strategies, including advanced water-cooling solutions, water-usage effectiveness (WUE), and power-usage effectiveness (PUE) targets.
- Reference Designs and Standards: Develop reusable basis-of-design documents, technical specifications, design guides, and standards for deployment across multiple campuses.
- Hyperscale Tenant Delivery: Translate tenant requirements into compliant designs and lead technical design reviews for built-to-suit data center projects.
- AI Platform Alignment: Align facility designs with NVIDIA GB300/NVL72 reference architectures and associated rack, networking, power, and cooling requirements.
- Design Governance: Lead architectural and engineering design reviews, approve technical deviations, and oversee A&E partners through concept, schematic, and detailed design phases.
- Technical Leadership: Guide internal design teams and external consultants while advising executive stakeholders on cost, schedule, technical trade-offs, and project risks.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in data center architecture, engineering, or design.
- At least 5 years of experience working for a hyperscaler, colocation data center developer, or top-tier architecture and engineering (A&E) firm.
- Proven design authority on at least one delivered data center campus of 50 MW or greater.
- Recent AI/HPC data center design experience since 2023, including rack densities of 50 kW or higher and liquid or direct-to-chip cooling technologies.
- Strong knowledge of Tier III/IV data center standards, Uptime Institute guidelines, TIA-942, NFPA codes, and the International Building Code (IBC).
- Demonstrated experience developing reference designs and technical standards adopted across multiple sites.
- Based in the United States and willing to travel internationally periodically.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD and GB200/GB300 reference architectures.
- Experience delivering built-to-suit data centers for hyperscale tenants.
- Expertise in renewable energy integration, behind-the-meter power systems, or large-scale utility interconnections.
- Experience with seawater cooling, recycled-water systems, or adiabatic cooling technologies.
- Professional credentials such as Registered Architect (RA), Professional Engineer (PE), Uptime Institute ATD/AOS, or BICSI RCDD.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are a senior technical leader who combines architectural design authority with deep expertise in AI infrastructure, high-density computing, power distribution, and advanced cooling. You can establish scalable design standards, challenge conventional approaches, lead multidisciplinary engineering partners, and translate complex technical requirements into reliable, repeatable data center solutions.
Location: Dallas, Texas preferred; remote candidates based in the United States will be considered.
Travel: Periodic international travel required.
