Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Principal Architect to oversee the design of advanced manufacturing facilities infrastructure, driving next-generation facilities, and delivering efficiency at scale.

You will lead a design team, coordinate with external engineering and construction partners, ensure BIM coordination, prepare permit-ready drawings, and mentor engineers through complex projects across multiple stages.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture and RA license.
  • 15+ years of architectural experience in large-scale facilities.
  • Proven ability to lead design teams and coordinate BIM workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Provide production of design drawings, presentation, and digital models in support of design teams.
  • Oversee drawings and deliverables for Permit/Construction, including plans, sections, details, schedules, layouts, calculations, and specifications for projects of various sizes and complexity.
  • Build and lead the architectural team to execute all aspects of the design process.
  • Oversee the complete design process, guiding concept evaluations and final decisions that result in fully developed construction drawings ready for permitting and construction.
  • Address RFIs and resolve design changes during construction.
  • Collaborate with external Engineering, Procurement, and Construction firms to verify designs align with Engineering Standards and lead/mentor internal and external teams.
  • Share project requirements, updates, and status with internal/external teams; mentor junior engineers.
  • Deliver updates on design concepts and project progress at milestones (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC).
  • Create comprehensive design packages including basis of design documents, sequence of operations, and contract-ready drawings.

We’re seeking a Principal Architect to oversee the design of advanced manufacturing facilities infrastructure. This pivotal role will drive the development of next‑generation manufacturing facilities, delivering efficiency in manufacturing at scale.

Key job responsibilities
  • Provide production of design drawings, presentation, and digital models in support of design teams
  • Overseeing drawings and deliverables for Permit/Construction, including plans, sections, details, schedules, layouts, calculations, and specifications for projects of various sizes and complexity
  • Build and lead the architectural team to execute all aspects of the design process
  • Oversee the complete design process, guiding concept evaluations and final decisions that result in fully developed construction drawings ready for permitting and construction
  • Address RFIs and resolve design changes during construction
  • Collaborate with external Engineering, Procurement, and Construction firms throughout bid and project execution phases to verify that all designs and specifications align with our Engineering Standards. Lead and support both internal teams and third‑party engineers to maintain project quality and compliance.
  • Proactively share project requirements, updates, and status with both internal and external teams to keep everyone aligned. Guide and develop junior engineers through hands‑on mentorship and professional growth opportunities.
  • Deliver comprehensive updates on design concepts and project progress during structured milestone reviews at the 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC stages, engaging stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to ensure strategic alignment and transparency.
  • Create comprehensive design packages including detailed basis of design documents, sequence of operations, and contract‑ready construction drawings to guide accurate project execution and stakeholder alignment.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture
  • Licensed Architect (RA)
Preferred Qualifications
  • 15+ years of architectural experience in large industrial, commercial, institutional, facilities
  • Expertise in site planning, building envelope systems, modular construction, and BIM coordination
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, accessibility standards, and sustainability frameworks
  • Proven ability to apply technical innovation to solve complex client challenges
  • Proficient in the use of Revit, Revisto, and Navisworks

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
