Job description

Principal Engineer – Effector RF Design Team, Raytheon, Tucson, AZ

Location: Tucson, AZ. This onsite role requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain an Interim U.S. government issued security clearance before the start date.

Raytheon is seeking a talented Principal Engineer to lead the design and implementation of antenna, radome, and RCS ranges and chambers. The selected candidate will guide cross‑functional engineering teams, develop technology roadmaps, and provide technical oversight and mentorship.

What You Will Do
  • Develop and construct antenna, radome, advanced sensor systems, and RCS ranges or chambers.
  • Work with interdisciplinary engineering teams (thermal, structural, mechanical, systems, etc.) to define, analyze, simulate, implement, and evaluate requirements for ranges and chambers, including relevant test equipment.
  • Collaborate with chamber/range equipment and service suppliers.
  • Oversee the implementation of new ranges and chambers.
  • Define and refine requirements to validate range and chamber compliance in partnership with government personnel and programs.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, mentoring, and training to other employees within your area of expertise.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with testing antennas or radomes in a chamber or test range.
  • Experience operating an antenna, radome, and/or RCS chamber or range.
  • Background in antenna and sensor measurement theory and range operation.
  • Ability to obtain INTERIM U.S. government issued security clearance before the start date and the ability to obtain special program access after start.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Master of Science (MS) or Ph.D. in electrical engineering.
  • Significant experience simulating/evaluating propagation, reflections, and scattering on an antenna under test (AUT) in an anechoic chamber.
  • Measurement of hardware for RCS.
  • Experience specifying, building, and validating antenna, radome, and/or RCS ranges or chambers.
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, and other high‑level scientific programming languages.
  • Proficiency with high‑performance computing (HPC) environments and schedulers such as SLURM.
  • Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools such as HFSS, CST, FEKO, SENTRi, and GRASP.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and lead technical execution plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of management processes such as Earned Value.
  • Experience presenting in technical reviews.
  • Understanding of near‑field‑to‑far‑field processing algorithms.
  • Experience designing and testing datalink, flight termination, telemetry, and/or GPS antenna systems.
  • Experience as a Cost Account Manager or Integrated Product Team Lead.
Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $107,500 – $204,500 USD (based on experience and qualifications).
