Job summary

Cisco's AI Software & Platform Group is seeking a Principal AI Researcher to lead research on world models and reinforcement learning for autonomous networks. You will design models that capture state and dynamics of large-scale networks and evaluate them in simulation and real data.

You will publish at leading conferences and contribute to open-source projects while collaborating with networking experts to translate research into production insights and scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Masters in Computer Science, ML, AI, robotics, autonomous systems or related field with 8+ years of research experience.
• Research experience in world models, RL, model-based RL, representation learning, planning or sequential decision-making.
• 3+ years building, training and optimizing deep learning models using PyTorch, JAX, or comparable frameworks, with at least 2 models at scale.
• Track record of publications at leading AI/ML conferences or equivalent contributions.
• Ability to take a research problem from idea to experimental prototype.

Responsibilities

• Lead research on world models and learning-based approaches for autonomous networks.
• Develop world models to learn state and dynamics of large-scale network environments.
• Build models to predict network behavior and impact of configuration changes.
• Develop model-based RL approaches for network optimization, troubleshooting, and remediation.
• Create simulation environments for training/evaluating models and agents before production use.
• Explore representation learning, planning, and sequential decision-making for network environments.
• Evaluate reliability and safety of learned policies before deployment.
• Collaborate with networking experts; publish research at AI/ML conferences and contribute to open source.
