Job summary

Elevance Health, a leading health company, is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to advance our AI capabilities in a hybrid work model. The role emphasizes building robust data infrastructure, scalable agent-based systems, and contributing to peer-reviewed research while collaborating with diverse teams.

Ideal candidates will report to Pulse Point locations in Indianapolis, IN or Atlanta, GA, with flexibility for occasional travel and accommodations based on commuting distance and policy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, ML, OR, Stats, Math, etc.) or equivalent and 8+ years of experience.
• Hands-on experience with Agentic AI and MCP is highly preferred.
• Experience creating Agents, multi-agent reasoning and multi-agent architecture is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops, manages, and manipulates complex high-volume data from multiple sources.
• Develops and maintains infrastructure systems that connect internal data sets; creates data collection frameworks for structured and unstructured data.
• Collaborates and publishes research in high-impact peer-reviewed journals or conferences to advance AI.

Principal AI Engineer

Location

This role requires associates to be in-office 1 - 2 days per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. This approach combines structured office engagement with the autonomy of virtual work, promoting a dynamic and adaptable workplace. Ideal candidates will be able to report to one of our Pulse Point locations in Indianapolis, IN, or Atlanta, GA. Alternate locations may be considered if candidates reside within a commuting distance from an office. Please note that per our policy on hybrid/virtual work, candidates not within a reasonable commuting distance from the posting location(s) will not be considered for employment, unless an accommodation is granted as required by law.

How you will make an impact

Minimum Requirements

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.) or equivalent degree and 8 or more years of experience; or any combination of education and experience in configuration management, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences

• Hands-on experience with Agentic AI and MCP highly preferred.
• Experience creating Agents, Multi-Agent reasoning and Multi-Agent architecture highly preferred.

Hybrid Workforce Strategy
