Position: Principal

Reports to: Executive Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Main Purpose: East Wake Academy fulfills its mission of maintaining a safe, challenging and creative learning environment that develops character and self‑esteem while equipping students with the skills needed for a rigorous curriculum and a college‑preparatory atmosphere.

Core Accountabilities

Oversees daily activities and operations within a school, including disciplining or advising students, approving teachers' curricula, and ensuring a safe environment for all students and staff.

Key Outputs / Results

School Vision:

  • Collaboratively develop, articulate, implement, and steward a shared vision of learning.
  • Collect and use data to identify school goals, assess effectiveness, and implement plans.
  • Promote continual and sustainable school improvement.
  • Promote effective use of technology to establish, evaluate, and improve the shared vision.

School Culture:

  • Foster the mission ideals through collaboration with leaders, staff, students, and families.
  • Maintain an environment built on safety, responsibility, and respect.

School Management of Organization, Operation, and Resources:

  • Monitor and evaluate teacher instruction, management, and operations.
  • Maintain positive relationships with authorizers and facilitate communication.
  • Utilize personnel, fiscal, and technological resources efficiently and comply with regulations.
  • Report relevant academic data to the Superintendent and Board.
  • Create and implement a professional development program.
  • Act as a role model demonstrating leadership and instructional skills.
  • Promote policies that protect student and staff welfare.
  • Collaborate within shared leadership roles.
  • Ensure teacher time focuses on high‑quality instruction and learning.
  • Ensure effective hiring and development of staff competency.

  • Represent the school, communicating vision to stakeholders.
  • Work with parent organizations to identify needs and create programs and policies.
  • Mobilize community resources and promote diverse cultural, social, and intellectual resources.

Essential Knowledge
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, program evaluation, child growth, instructional strategies, classroom management, assessment, diagnosis, and related research.
  • Prior experience as a principal or administrator (preferred).
  • Strong instructional leadership and teacher performance evaluation skills.
  • Advanced curriculum and assessment knowledge.
  • Commitment to staff growth and development.
  • Visionary with excellent delegation, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of best practice and research‑based instructional strategies.
  • Strong understanding of teacher effectiveness research.
  • Skill in monitoring student growth and achievement.
  • Knowledge of state and federal program administration (preferred).
  • Knowledge of special education laws and requirements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative administrative team.
  • Ability to implement and manage a wide range of projects.
