Job summary

Nomura seeks a Prime Broker Middle Office Associate/VP in New York to restart and oversee the full trade lifecycle for hedge fund clients and other institutional investors. You will coordinate with front and back offices to ensure accurate processing, risk control, and regulatory compliance.

You will lead client communications, resolve breaks, and drive operational excellence within a fast-paced environment, reporting to the Operations department.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in middle office at another bank is required.
  • Specific Cash Prime experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance or related field.
  • Strong Excel proficiency is required.
  • High level of client service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple issues and prioritize workload.
  • Eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure complete lifecycle of client trades: capture, affirmation, confirmation, settlement and reconciliation.
  • Resolve trade breaks, discrepancies, and settlement exceptions with internal teams and brokers.
  • Manage cash movements and perform cash reconciliation for clients.
  • Serve as primary client contact for operational inquiries and resolution.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to meet operational needs.
  • Provide information and expertise on prime brokerage services and complex processing issues.
  • Monitor and control risks associated with trade processing, settlements, and corporate actions.
  • Adhere to internal and external regulatory requirements and control frameworks.
  • Escalate potential risk issues to senior management when necessary.
  • Coordinate corporate actions, elections, and documentation with clients and teams.
  • Collaborate with sales, trading, settlements, technology, and risk management.

Department Overview

Nomura's Prime Brokerage middle office acts as a crucial link between the front office (sales and trading) and the back office (settlements and operations). The core function of the prime broker middle office is to manage and control the operational risk associated with prime brokerage activities and ensure smooth and accurate transaction processing for hedge fund clients and other institutional investors.

Role Description
  • Cash Prime Brokerage middle office expert required to help restart the business in NY.
  • Ensuring the complete lifecycle of client transactions, including trade capture, affirmation, confirmation, settlement, and reconciliation, runs smoothly.
  • Working to resolve trade breaks, discrepancies, and settlement exceptions, often coordinating with other internal teams like settlements, margin, and various broker-dealers involved in the transaction.
  • Managing cash movements and ensuring accurate cash reconciliation for clients.
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for clients for operational inquiries and problem resolution, particularly related to asset servicing, corporate actions, and transaction processing.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients to ensure their operational needs are met and to foster positive client experiences.
  • Providing clients with information and expertise on various prime brokerage services and potentially advising on complex processing issues.
  • Monitoring and controlling risks associated with prime brokerage activities, including trade processing, settlement, and corporate actions.
  • Understanding and adhering to internal and external regulatory requirements and control frameworks.
  • Escalating potential risk issues to senior management when necessary.
  • Handling and reviewing corporate action queries and elections, including dividends, principal and interest, mandatory events, voluntary events, proxies, and tax implications.
  • Coordinating with internal teams and clients to ensure timely and accurate completion of corporate actions, including elections and documentation.
  • Working collaboratively with different departments within the firm, such as sales, trading, settlements, technology, and risk management.
Skills, Experience, Qualifications And Knowledge Required
  • 5+ years of experience in middle office from another bank is required
  • Specific experience with Cash Prime is required
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably Mathematics, Finance or any related field)
  • High level of proficiency with Excel
  • High level of client service provided to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple issues and effectively prioritize workload
  • Eager to learn and wants to working in a fast paced environment
