Job summary

Houston Zoo is seeking a dedicated Zookeeper to support daily animal husbandry and exhibit maintenance. responsibilities include feeding, cleaning, record-keeping, enrichment, and assisting with public programs under supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in animal care at an AZA or equivalent facility; experience can be waived with advanced degrees.
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license.
• Must be dive certified or the ability to be certified.
• Active member of the dive team to perform routine maintenance in aquatic environments.

Responsibilities

• Cares for assigned animals including cleaning, feeding, exhibit maintenance and upkeep of facilities.
• Administers medications or treatments under veterinary and supervisor guidance.
• Maintains daily reports and records (Species 360, TRACKS, MS Office).
• Implements behavior-based husbandry and enrichment to improve animal welfare.
• Assists with tours, demonstrations and public interactions as requested.
• Supports conservation and research projects as directed by Zoo Supervisor or Curator.
