Qualifications

• Must have completed a Baccalaureate Degree or a minimum of two years of college in an accredited PA Education Program.
• Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Maintain BLS/ACLS certifications.
• Must work under the supervision of an M.D.
• A copy of the PA’s Scope of Service must be on file at CIM and CarolinaEast Health System.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary care for all age groups.
• Refer patients with complex conditions to a physician for continuation of care.
• Act as agent of supervising physician in ordering diagnostic and other medical services.
• Provide supervision to clinical staff as an agent of the supervising physician.
• Prescribe medications under NC Medical Board rules; supervising physician determines which meds may be prescribed.
• Document all prescriptions in patient records.
• Dictate test and examination results in a timely manner.
• Triage patient calls and provide consultation.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and adhere to standards.
