Job summary

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is seeking a physician to provide direct, high-quality primary medical care to individuals experiencing homelessness at our Denver clinics. You will apply trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and harm-reduction principles while collaborating with psychiatry, behavioral health, case management, dental, and vision teams to deliver comprehensive care.

Ideal candidates will have medical or osteopathic training, completed residency, Colorado

Qualifications

  • Medical degree or DO from an accredited school.
  • Completion of an accredited residency program.
  • Board certified or board eligible in specialty.
  • Current licensure or ability to obtain licensure in Colorado and current DEA licensure.

The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for families, children, and individuals who are experiencing or at-risk of homelessness throughout Colorado. The Coalition advocates for and provides a continuum of housing and a variety of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of those it serves.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, high-quality primary medical care to people experiencing homelessness.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to social justice in all aspects of patient care.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care principles when working with patients.
  • Collaborate effectively with other primary care medical providers as well as the multidisciplinary healthcare team (psychiatry, behavioral health, case management, dental, vision) to ensure comprehensive care.

Education, Experience, And Job Competencies
  • Education
  • Medical Degree or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Completion of an accredited Residency Program in the physician’s specialty.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible status in the physician’s specialty
  • Experience
  • Demonstrated experience caring for patients experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, poverty, and mental illness.
  • Current licensure or ability to obtain licensure in the State of Colorado as a physician.
  • Current DEA licensure

Department Overview & Requirements
  • This position is primarily located at 2130 Stout Street, Denver, CO 80205 and may require travel to other clinical sites within the CCH network.
  • Current typical schedule is either four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour days each week. If four 10-hour shifts are preferred, the applicant should expect to work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with the option to have either Tuesday or Thursday off.
    • For a 10-hour schedule typical hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays) and 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM on Wednesdays.
    • For an 8-hour schedule, typical hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays) and 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesdays
  • Evening coverage to 6:00 PM on Wednesdays is required.
  • Weekend coverage may be required.
  • Call schedule: after the first year with CCH, the physician is expected to take 2 weeks of at-home call per year (phone calls only, no in-person requirement).
  • Spanish-language proficiency is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with wound care is preferred, but not required.
