Compensation: $35.69. Although the full hourly range for this position is provided, appointments are typically made at or near the range minimum.

OVERVIEW AND ROLE SCOPE OF TEAM AND/OR TASKS
  • Troubleshoot and maintain HVAC and associated systems, including heating/cooling closed loop, domestic hot and cold water, sanitary, and natural gas distribution, pumps, boilers, metering valves, heat pumps, hydronic pumps, and associated digital controls
  • Perform required preventive maintenance and/or repair tasks in an efficient manner
  • Respond to work orders that require the repair or replacement of non‑functioning HVAC components
  • Provide maintenance of HVAC and associated systems by performing routine filter and belt replacements, cleaning air distribution systems and associated components, corrosion prevention, water treatment, and other preventative measures
  • Repair or replace standard building HVAC equipment in Residence Halls, classroom and other buildings, kitchens and laboratories including water and gas‑delivery
  • Install new standard building HVAC equipment associated with minor remodels
  • Work from standard engineering drawings, or sketches
  • Assist other skilled tradesmen as required
  • Repair refrigeration and air compressors, pumps, and centrifugal fans
  • Report, without delay or interruption, to provide essential or emergency services to ensure campus health, safety, and welfare within position responsibilities
  • Other related duties as assigned

The position requires the ability and willingness to work a rotating shift assignment and/or overtime as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability to perform job duties
  • NATE Ready‑to‑Work certificate can be used to demonstrate a candidate’s fundamental job knowledge and skills for an entry level technician in the areas of component identification, tools, measurements, electrical/general safety, and basic heat transfer
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license
  • Must possess Universal EPA (Freon Handler) certification under section 608 Refrigerant Recycling Rule of the Clean Air Act 1990
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize projects
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Demonstrated reliability and ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Preferred: Five years of progressively responsible Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning and mechanical experience including maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of standard Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning and associated systems and equipment

There is some moderate lifting and the ability to carry equipment is required (ladders/tools replacement equipment), and work involves climbing ladders, working on roofs, and in confined spaces e.g. attics, and crawl spaces. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to differentiate between the colors red, green, purple, and blue.
