The Council on Recovery is seeking a Youth Prevention Counselor to provide prevention services for residents of Houston, Harris County, and surrounding areas. You will report to the Program Manager and collaborate with staff and community members to support daily operations.

You will conduct drug education and information sessions, document activities, and compile weekly reports while serving youth and families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services related discipline.
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
• Experience facilitating groups of children.
• Classroom management skills.

Responsabilités

• Provide alcohol and other drug abuse prevention services to youth and their family members in Houston and Harris County.
• Documents activities, administer surveys, facilitate tobacco compliance checks, and compile weekly reports.
• Respond to information requests and refer to community resources.
• Available to provide prevention services 37.5 hours per week as assigned.
• Inventories and maintains program supplies.
• All other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY

Serve as youth prevention counselor, responsible for providing prevention services to residents of Houston, Harris County and surrounding areas. Reports to the Program Manager and interacts closely with other staff and community members in matters relating to daily operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide alcohol and other drug abuse prevention services to youth and their family members residing in the Houston, Harris County, including drug education and information presentations as needed.
• Documents activities, administer survey questionnaires to program participants, facilitate tobacco retail compliance checks, and compiles weekly statistical reports on services provided.
• Respond to requests for information and makes appropriate referrals to community resources.
• Is available to provide prevention services 37.5 hours per week as assigned, adjusting schedule as needed to accommodate needs of community participants.
• Inventories and maintains program supplies.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in human services related discipline
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred and culturally sensitive to the needs of the community

Experience

• Facilitated groups of children
• Classroom management skills
