Catholic Charities is offering a Paid Prevention Intern (PPI) role in New York as a 12-month, grant-funded, part-time program within a NYS OASAS Prevention framework. The internship provides 60 hours of Prevention-specific education and training upon completion and an entry point toward CPP/CPS credentials.

The role focuses on identifying community needs, applying evidence-based programs, and developing workshops while working with diverse stakeholders and supervisors for training and growth.

• Works closely with community stakeholders including service providers, schools, law enforcement, and local businesses to provide prevention education and tools.
• Aids the agency with development and implementation of new workshops and initiatives to serve the community.
• Meets regularly with supervisor to receive necessary training and supervision to be able to complete all tasks.
• Completes other duties as assigned.

General Description

The Paid Prevention Intern (PPI) is a 12-month, grant funded, part-time position working and learning in a NYS OASAS Prevention program. The PPI is designed to offer an entry level pathway to individuals interested in the Prevention field and ultimately in pursuing a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) or Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential. Completion of the internship guarantees an individual 60 hours of Prevention-specific education and training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Learns the process of identifying the needs of a community.

Additional Qualifications:

• Adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations including, but not limited to, those governing confidentiality, privacy, program, billing and documentation. Demonstrate ethical business practices, in accordance with all state and federal laws and regulations.
• Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all records reviewed including consumer records, employee records and billing records.
• Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize duties.
• Ability to work in the following software programs: Windows, Microsoft Office, and multiple online software platforms as required by funders and partner organizations
• Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier.
• Continuous use of a reliable, registered and insured vehicle.
• Ability to demonstrate behaviors and attitudes which support organizational mission, philosophy, and policies
• Ability to work in a cooperative and helpful manner with all individuals
• Willingness and ability to foster agency and program wide cooperation and teamwork through use of positive/constructive communication techniques
• Provide effective, equitable, understandable and respectful quality care and services that are responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy and other communication needs.
