Job summary

The Prevention and Intervention Specialist role supports district and building level administrators in implementing substance abuse education, behavior management, and prevention programs during the 2026-2027 school year. The position collaborates with staff to plan in-school interventions and student support, contributing to a SMART alternative education program for suspended/expelled students.

Starting hourly rate ranges from $30.75 to $34.50 for Grade 11, with DOE adjustments.

Qualifications

• Must hold or be eligible for certification as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Technician with the State of Alaska.
• Associate's Degree in a social science related field or 48 credit hours toward an associate's degree.
• Two years of experience working with children in an education or related setting.
• Knowledge of current ATOD trends involving children and adolescents.
• Ability to facilitate groups on ATOD education, risky behaviors, social skills and anger management.
• Knowledge of multi-tiered Systems of Support for Restorative Practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist administration with implementing substance abuse education and violence prevention programs.
• Plan and oversee in-school intervention and student support activities.
• Collaborate with staff to address student behavior management and support for suspended/expelled students.
• Support the SMART alternative education program and communication of supports to families.
