Job summary

Center-For-Family-Life-and-Recovery is seeking a Prevention Professional Intern for a 12-month, grant-funded Paid Prevention Internship Opportunity (PPIO) in Utica. This entry-level role focuses on addressing alcohol and substance misuse while offering learning to pursue CPP/CPS credentials.

The intern will work up to 16 hours per week in a community-facing capacity, collaborating with coalitions, schools, law enforcement, and local businesses. A NYS driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Passion for community service and addressing substance misuse issues.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Eagerness to learn and apply evidence-based practices.
• Pursuing or holding a degree in topics related to substance use, mental health, or surrounding areas is preferred.
• Comfortable commuting up to 40 miles from the greater Utica area.
• Capable of working in an academic atmosphere.
• Knowledge of local community resources preferred but not required.
• Current and valid NYS driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Community Engagement: attend meetings, engage with coalitions and stakeholders, foster relationships with service providers, schools, law enforcement, and local businesses.
• Prevention Education and Tools: provide prevention education and develop tools, workshops and initiatives with community stakeholders.
• Workshop and Initiative Development: contribute to creating and implementing new workshops and staying informed on emerging issues related to substance misuse.
