Job summary

Thompson Pipe Group in Grand Prairie, Texas, seeks a Pressure Pipe Quality Assurance Technologist to be the quality voice across engineering, production, and operations. The role requires an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and emphasizes QA activities, NDE/NDT coordination, and rigorous documentation.

You’ll interpret codes and specs, proctor weld tests, perform inspections with micrometers and thickness gauges, and oversee internal audits while coaching colleagues.

Qualifications

• Experience in QA/QC or production within a related industry.
• Technical strength in concrete, civil, coatings, welding, NDE/NDT.

Responsibilities

• Interpret codes, specifications, drawings, and procedures to guide daily QA activities.
• Collect, prepare, process, and report on material samples (welds, concrete, cement-mortar lining).
• Proctor welder and welding-operator qualification tests; complete all records and logs.
• Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, holiday detectors, and thickness gauges.
• Inspect parts and assemblies produced by BLE, SPP, and Fittings departments and qualified vendors, covering coating, concrete, dimensional, lining, loading, and welding.
• Conduct, evaluate, and document NDE/NDT; coordinate and oversee third-party exam vendors.
• Independently execute internal audits assigned by Quality leadership.
• Coach and train less-experienced personnel as directed.
• Own the paperwork: QA inspection/test reports, calibrations, certifications, lab records, production records, QC close-outs, NCRs, and nonconforming product logs.
• Advance your craft: maintain OJT records and pursue new or higher-level certifications (ACI, AWS, NACE/SPCC, NDE/NDT).

• Champion quality for our Pressure product line by partnering with production, operations, engineering, and project management.

Bring These Credentials

• Experience in QA/QC or production within a related industry.
• Technical strength in one or more: concrete, civil, coatings, welding, NDE/NDT.
• Level I/equivalent training or certification in ACI Field Testing; NDE/NDT MT, PT, RT, UT, VT (ASNT SNT-TC-1A or NAS 410); NACE/SPCC; or API 510/570/577.
• Level II/equivalent preferred in any of the above; AWS CWI (preferred) or CAWI.
• Education: HS diploma or GED required; trade school in related technology is valuable; STEM AA/BS welcomed.
• MS Office proficiency (Excel power user).
• English/Spanish bilingual ability is a plus.
