Job summary

Salem One seeks an Offset Pressroom Manager to provide operational leadership across multiple offset production locations, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity while upholding G7 color standards. You will coordinate scheduling, quality, maintenance, and project management, driving continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration to meet business objectives.

The role requires strong knowledge of press operations, make-ready, and quality controls, with proven leadership to coach

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (graphic communications, engineering, operations, or related); equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of print manufacturing experience with leadership or supervisory responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of press operations, make ready/setup, quality requirements, and troubleshooting in a high-mix production environment.
  • Experience leading teams, managing priorities, and coordinating cross-functionally to meet schedules and customer requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Lean principles and structured problem-solving (5S, SMED) and ability to use metrics to drive action.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with basic reporting tools (Excel/ERP/MIS).

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the pressroom to improve performance, safety, quality, and costs.
  • Lead and develop production teams through hiring, coaching, succession planning, and cross-training.
  • Serve as the technical authority for offset printing operations and production optimization.
  • Drive scheduling and production flow to align staffing with customer requirements.
  • Establish and enforce process controls, standard work, and quality systems to reduce variation.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven decision making.
  • Partner with Sales, Project Management, Scheduling, Prepress, Finishing, Shipping, Maintenance, HR, suppliers, and customers to resolve issues.
  • Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving to address production and equipment challenges.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance strategy and equipment reliability.
  • Manage customer and supplier engagement related to print quality and service performance.
  • Direct compliance initiatives including quality standards, audit readiness, and safety.

POSITION SUMMARY:The Offset Pressroom Manager provides operational leadership across multiple offset production locations, ensuring safety, quality and productivity while maintaining our G7 color management standards. This role will be a technical resource for all offset printing, color, quality, process control, and standard work execution across sites. Responsible for coordinating scheduling, quality, preventative maintenance, project management, and downstream operations to establish performance expectations. This position independently evaluates processes, identifies short- and long-term improvement opportunities, and implements actions to meet internal and external requirements to meet the overall business objectives.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Provide leadership to the pressroom to improve performance, safety, quality, and costs associated with raw materials.Lead and develop production teams through hiring, coaching, succession planning, performance management, and cross-training to maintain multi-level bench strength.Serve as the technical authority for offset printing operations, applying advanced knowledge of printing processes, color theory, print/press capabilities, quality systems, and production optimization.Drive scheduling and production flow by aligning staffing and job sequencing to customer requirements and operational capacity.Establish and enforce process controls, standard work, and quality systems to reduce variation/spoilage/waste, improve consistency, and ensure compliance with internal, and customer/industry standards.Champion continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven decision making to increase throughput, improve OEE, reduce waste, minimize downtime, and improve labor efficiency.Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Project Management, Scheduling, Prepress, Finishing, Shipping, Maintenance, HR, suppliers, and customers to resolve issues and improve communication and execution.Lead root cause analysis and structured problem-solving efforts to address production, quality, and equipment performance challenges while implementing sustainable corrective actions.Oversee preventative maintenance strategy, equipment reliability, pressroom housekeeping, and operational readiness to maximize asset utilization and production continuity.Manage customer and supplier engagement related to print quality, production capability, issue resolution, and continuous enhancement of service performance.Direct compliance initiatives including S1 quality and SQF standard, audit readiness, production documentation, training, and adherence to safety and operational standards.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree preferred (graphic communications, engineering, operations, or related); equivalent experience considered.5+ years of print manufacturing experience with demonstrated leadership or supervisory responsibility.Strong working knowledge of press operations, make ready/setup, quality requirements, and troubleshooting in a high-mix production environment.Experience leading teams, managing priorities, and coordinating cross-functionally to meet schedules and customer requirements.Working knowledge of Lean principles and structured problem-solving (e.g., 5S, SMED) and ability to use metrics to drive action.Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with basic reporting tools (Excel/ERP/MIS).Travel required - will be responsible for Winston Salem and Charlotte locations.About Salem OneSalem One is the largest independently-owned packaging, print, direct marketing/mail company in NC and SC and one of the largest in the Southeast, delivering award-winning products and services to leading local, regional and national corporations and brands.
