Job summary

Cerro Flow Products LLC, located in Sauget, IL, is seeking a Press Operator to safely operate and control the Extrusion Press, extruding copper billets into shells and monitoring the process from start to finish.

The role requires coordinating a 12‑hour shift schedule (6:00am–6:00pm), performing start-up checks, and documenting production in the MES. Compensation ranges from $19.90 to $24.32 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read micrometers, calipers and other measuring equipment.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to log data accurately.
  • Familiarity with MES databases and entry of production information.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes the Press Crew for safe start-up and shutdowns.
  • Perform pre-start checks on heat, pump, heaters, valves, heat exchanger and nitrogen flow.
  • Operate the press and monitor run-out trough; lubricate mandrel and clean dies.
  • Schedule changes of mandrel, dies, dummy blocks and clean-out rings; enter production data into MES.
  • Shut down safely and maintain housekeeping.
  • Follow safety rules and report concerns immediately.

Position Summary : Safely performs the duties required to operate and control the Extrusion Press to extrude and size copper billets into shells. Operators must know the status of the entire process at all times. Has decision making responsibility on matters concerning the normal production operation of the Extrusion Press.

2. Major Responsibilites/Activities (List in order of importance the essential functions of the job and the approximate percentage of time spent on each of the activities; describe what must be accomplished, not how it must be done.) :

Organizes the Press Crew for safe start-up at the beginning of the shift and following shutdowns. Maintain visual and mental concentration at all times to ensure safe and efficient operation of the Press.

% of time: 40%

Press Operator will safely perform checks on the following items prior to Press start up: Container heat, pump operation, heaters, valve operation, heat exchanger, nitrogen flow.

% of time: 40%

Utilize monitor and control panel to safely call billets and operate Press. Monitor run-out trough, apply lubrication to mandrel as needed. Clean dies and Die holders at normal frequency as needed.

% of time: 10%

Establish appropriate time schedules for changing Mandrel, Dies, Dummy blocks and Clean Out Rings based on usage, wear data and past performance. Enter production and downtime information into MES database daily.

% of time: 5%

Safely shut down machine at end of shift and week. Safely perform daily housekeeping duties as required, including cleanup of all machines used during the shift.

% of time: 5%

3. Other Functions :

Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and instructions. Actively participate in programs to improve safety, quality and process capabilities in the area and plant wide. Report all safety concerns and incidents immediately to Supervisor or Production Manager. Knowledge and ability to safely perform all Press Crew duties and responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

4. Decision Making: Determine when Maintenance should be called, organize Press Crew for startup, determine when dies and other items should be changed or replaced. Inform Supervisor of quality and equipment issues that may impact tube production.

5. Financial Responsibility (Budget requirements, purchasing authority or recommendations, control cost): Assist in controlling costs through good stewardship of resources, recommendations for improvement, and inventory management.

6. Contacts (Interaction with staff, management, other plants, suppliers/vendors, and/or within the community): Communicate performance and needs with supervisor, coworkers, and other production departments.

7. Knowledge Skills and Abilities (Include education, experience, reasoning ability, special skills, computer ability and licenses or certifications required):

Working knowledge of computer to access MES database. Ability to safely operate needle scaler, grinder and die grinder.

Ability to read micrometers, calipers, and other measuring equipment.

Basic math skills required.

This is a 1st shift position that works 12-hour shifts. 6:00am-6:00pm

Pay Range:

19.90 - 24.32
