Mysmartjobboard is seeking a visionary President to lead the Private Trust Company and Family Office for a multi-generational family enterprise in the United States. The role oversees fiduciary administration, governance, and strategic advisory services across family, investments, accounting, tax, and philanthropy.
You will mentor leaders and shape long-term stewardship, ownership planning, and governance frameworks.
Our client is one of the country's most established and respected multi-generational family enterprises. Built through the vision and stewardship of a pioneering entrepreneurial family, the enterprise has evolved over several decades into a highly diversified organization encompassing operating businesses, investment assets, trusts, philanthropic institutions, and a sophisticated family office platform dedicated exclusively to serving family members. Today, the enterprise represents several billion dollars of assets and serves three active generations of family members while preparing for the emergence of the next generation.
The enterprise encompasses both a diversified platform for operating businesses and a substantial family trust infrastructure and family office. A family-owned operating company serves as the principal vehicle for the family's operating businesses, with interests spanning commercial real estate, energy, and private investments, and it is also home to the family's primary philanthropic institution. A separate foundation reflects the family's broader philanthropic commitment outside of the operating company.
Complementing the operating company platform, a dedicated family office leads a substantial investment program — investing across public equities, hedge funds, private equity, co-investments, and other strategies — and delivers a broad range of services to family members and related entities. At the center of the family-facing enterprise, a regulated private trust company and the family office operate together as an integrated organization, providing trust administration, accounting, tax, investment oversight, client services, insurance, governance support, financial planning, and strategic advisory services. Collectively, they help steward family capital, support informed decision-making, and uphold the family's long-standing commitment to stewardship, integrity, fairness, inclusion, and family harmony.
For more than twenty-five years, the current executive leader has simultaneously overseen both the operating enterprise and the Private Trust Company and Family Office. As part of a thoughtful long-term succession strategy, these responsibilities are now being separated: the current CEO will continue leading the operating businesses while remaining Chairman of the Private Trust Company, allowing the incoming President to assume leadership of the family’s ownership of the enterprise. This intentional transition is designed to facilitate a comprehensive transfer of institutional knowledge while providing the incoming leader the opportunity to build trusted relationships across the family well in advance of the next major generational transition.
This role extends well beyond leading a sophisticated family office. It is a rare opportunity to become one of the principal stewards of a nationally recognized multi-generational family enterprise as it enters one of the most significant periods in its history.
The President will lead both the Private Trust Company and Family Office, overseeing the delivery of all family office services while serving as a trusted advisor to multiple generations of family members. As the organization's Senior Trust Officer, the President also holds senior fiduciary responsibility and accountability for the administration of the family's trusts. Just as critical, this individual will help guide the family's continued development as it undertakes long-range planning and preparation for a future trust termination event anticipated over the coming years. Over the next decade, the President will play a central role in educating, preparing, and supporting all generations as they assume increasing ownership responsibilities across the enterprise.
Unlike many family office leadership roles, this position is not intended to be the primary technical expert in accounting, tax, investments, or legal matters. Rather, the President serves as the strategic leader who integrates these disciplines, develops and mentors senior leaders, oversees governance, builds consensus among family members, and ensures that the family office continues to advance while preserving the culture and values established over generations.
Success will require balancing continuity with measured evolution and professionalization, honoring the systems, relationships, and institutional knowledge built over decades while modernizing operations, implementing new strategies, strengthening governance, leveraging technology, and preparing both the organization and the family for the future.
This is ultimately a role centered on stewardship, leadership, and relationships.
The President serves as the senior executive responsible for the leadership of both the Trust Company and the Family Office. The role combines strategic leadership, governance, trusted family advisory, and organizational oversight across every aspect of the service delivery model. This integrated team, which serves both the Private Trust Company and the Family Office, reports into the President, who in turn reports to the Trust Company governing board.
Rather than functioning as a technical specialist, the President will lead through experienced department heads while maintaining sufficient technical depth to provide thoughtful oversight, ask insightful questions, and help guide complex decisions across investments, accounting, tax and estate planning, fiduciary administration, governance, and family services. Given the Trust Company's role in helping govern the broader enterprise, the President will also be actively engaged in strategic asset allocation discussions and the interdependency of investment decisions across the enterprise, particularly as the family plans toward an anticipated future trust termination.
The opportunity can best be viewed through three interconnected areas of responsibility.
As President of the Private Trust Company, the successful candidate will oversee fiduciary administration, trustee responsibilities, family enterprise strategies, and family governance processes.
As Senior Trust Officer, the President serves as the Trust Company's top fiduciary officer, with senior responsibility for trust administration, discretionary distribution decisions, and ensuring each trust is administered in accordance with its terms and applicable fiduciary standards.
Working closely with the Trust Company Board, the President will strengthen governance, educate trustees and board members, oversee fiduciary responsibilities, provide investment oversight, and continue building policies and processes that preserve institutional knowledge across generations.
The President will work collaboratively with the enterprise Risk Management function — a shared corporate resource serving the broader enterprise — supporting its efforts on family-related risk and insurance matters.
The President will also help family members understand the responsibilities of stewardship, ownership, trusteeship, and governance while supporting sound decision-making regarding family, business, and philanthropic goals.
Provide executive leadership for the family office organization, overseeing the delivery of accounting, tax, investment, client service, insurance, treasury, financial planning, and related services provided to family members.
The President will oversee an experienced leadership team of around 30 professionals who support the following functional areas:
The President also partners with the enterprise Risk Management function on family insurance and risk matters, working collaboratively with that shared corporate resource rather than managing it directly.
The emphasis of the role is strategic leadership rather than functional execution. The successful candidate will mentor senior leaders, establish priorities, improve collaboration across disciplines, evaluate service delivery, oversee budgets and strategic initiatives, and ensure that the organization continues providing exceptional service while evolving thoughtfully over time. This will include:
Perhaps the most unique aspect of this opportunity is helping guide the family through its next chapter.
Over the coming years, family ownership will continue expanding across generations, with long-range preparation underway for a future trust termination event that will, in time, reshape ownership of the enterprise. A central purpose of this role is to help the family and enterprise plan thoughtfully and well in advance for that eventual transition.
The President will work closely with current and future family leaders to:
This work will require exceptional patience, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, and long-term relationship building. Trust will be earned over years rather than months.
