Job summary

RCMA seeks a Preschool Teacher 2 to join our on-site early education program in Florida. You will work with an experienced Teacher to deliver developmentally appropriate activities in a nurturing environment, supporting multiple developmental domains in young children and families.

You will use the HighScope curriculum and collaborate with the Center Coordinator to evaluate performance and ensure quality educational services. Seasonal October–May with RCMA benefits included.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Works with an experienced Teacher to provide children with developmentally appropriate activities in a quality early childhood program that offers a safe and nurturing environment while supporting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children and families. The Preschool Teacher 2 Performance Standard explains in detail the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and must be used as an integral part of this Job Description.

The Early Childhood Specialist provides guidance and direction for educational services and jointly, with the Center Coordinator, evaluates the job performance of the Preschool Teacher 2.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; however, other duties may be assigned:
Work as part of a teaching team to:
  • Shows a warm, secure, affectionate, and social-emotional climate for young children.
    (Note: Lifting and holding a child is an essential part of this role.)
  • Uses the HighScope curriculum to plan environments, activities, schedules, and daily routines for young children.
  • Uses the HighScope curriculum for interaction strategies with children.
  • Observes, screens, and assesses young children to provide support for ongoing developmental progress and achievement of RCMA School Readiness goals.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe and healthy classroom and outside environment.
  • Be an engaged partner with families.
  • Manages the classroom.
  • Commits to professionalism and RCMA.
  • Adheres to all RCMA funding and Department of Children and Families (DCF) requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

In order to meet the minimum education requirements, please provide ONE of the following:

  • Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC), Birth to Five Years; OR
  • Preschool National CDC Credential. The CDA must be an age-specific Center-Based Credential. A Family Child Care CDA is not acceptable. OR
  • Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC); OR
  • Child Care Apprenticeship Certificate (CCAC); OR
  • Staff Credential Verification issued by NECC; OR
  • College Coursework, consisting of:
  • 9 college credits in Early Childhood Education; AND
  • 3 months of experience in the field (480 working hours) in teaching preschool-age children; AND
  • Must maintain uninterrupted enrollment in an accredited college while working toward the completion of an AA/AS degree.
NOTE:

Further training appropriate to the age of children being served may be required.

IMPORTANT:
  • Applicant can be placed into this position with an Infant Toddler National CDA, but must obtain a Preschool National CDA within 260 days of accepting this position.
  • Transcripts must be submitted to the Early Education Specialist (ECS) for review and to the HR Department for final approval.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Familiarity with the community served, including relevant occupational or cultural experience, such as a farmworker background, when applicable.
  • Current certification in Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Pediatric First Aid.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

Seasonal position from October through May.
