Job summary

Child-Parent Centers, Inc. in Tucson (Head Start – Santa Rosa) seeks an experienced early childhood educator to implement the Languages of Learning curriculum and provide direct services to preschool children.

This role involves coordinating with families, conducting conferences and home visits, and ensuring a safe classroom environment daily. Applicants should have the required associate’s degree with ECE credits and at least one year of preschool experience.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Associate’s degree in early childhood education OR an associate’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 credits in early childhood education or child development coursework.
  • One (1) year documented work experience with preschool children.
  • Submit a current AZ Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card prior to start date.
  • Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license and excellent driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Languages of Learning curriculum minimum 6.75hours/day, four days per week.
  • Conduct at least two parent conferences and two home visits each program year.
  • Create and maintain a healthy, clean, and safe environment with universal precautions and regular sanitation.
  • Develop and implement child supervision and count systems, and active supervision plan.
  • Teach health and safety rules through routines such as hand washing, fire drills, crossing streets.
  • Set learning goals and plan experiences using knowledge of each child; collaborate with families and specialists.
  • Promote exploration, creativity, and development by designing indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Incorporate children’s cultures and languages into classroom materials and activities.
  • Challenge children intellectually by selecting and adapting high‑quality materials and equipment.
  • Use data from home visits and conferences to inform daily routines and interactions.
  • Support parents with newsletters, take‑home activities, home visits, and conferences.

Job Details
  • Level: Experienced
  • Job Location: Santa Rosa, HeadStart – Tucson, AZ85701
  • Position Type: 35‑40 hours/week (mid July through mid June); may require occasional evening or weekend work due to special events
  • Hourly Salary: $19.10 – $20.21
  • Travel Percentage: In Town
  • Job Shift: Day (M‑F) approx 7:30am – 4:30pm
  • Supervisor: Lead Teacher

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18years of age

Other Requirements (post hire)
  • Must be able to travel to and from various sites as needed
  • Must be able to travel outside assigned area in company‑owned vehicle, potentially before daylight hours and after sundown
  • Provide proof of immunizations: MMR, Tdap, and Tuberculosis assessment
  • Able to pass company paid physical exam prior to starting work
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must prove right to work in the USA (Federal I‑9)
  • Must possess or maintain current certification in First Aid/CPR for Infants and Children
  • Must possess or maintain a Food Handler’s Certificate issued by the Arizona health department
Desired Qualifications
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related program with a minimum of 18 credits in early childhood education or child development
  • Five (5) years of work or volunteer experience with diverse groups or individuals, or with Head Start
  • Able to read, write, speak and understand Spanish
Work Environment
  • Indoor classroom – temperature controlled
  • Outdoor playground – exposure to hot and cold
  • Possible exposure to communicable illness, blood‑borne pathogens

Physical Requirements

Frequently: Stooping, bending, reaching; moving quickly around objects (run, jump, jog); up and down from carpet/floor and/or 12‑14inches chairs; lift children (3‑5year old children) 30‑40lb

Occasionally: Picking up and dropping off supplies; push and pull furniture 20‑50lb; lifting ±50lb

Record Keeping, Monitoring and Reporting
  • Monitor observation, screening, and assessment data to plan individualized experiences
  • Enter accurate data into child information systems (SmartTeach/ChildPlus) for program reports
  • Document progress toward goals including IEPs, through observation, play, conversations, and work samples
  • Maintain accurate, objective, timely, and well‑organized records per federal, state, and program requirements
  • Report any unsupervised child incidents to supervisor and relevant parties
Leadership, Management, and Teamwork
  • Participate in center staff meetings, planning activities, and identify emerging needs
  • Participate on trans‑disciplinary team to meet family needs and build relationships
  • Identify children needing referrals through data review with team and specialists
  • Attend consultation to improve assessment and referral processes
  • Plan transitions to or from Early Head Start, Head Start, home, and other settings
  • Act as Lead Teacher and guide classroom activities when Lead Teacher absent
  • Recruit, train, and supervise classroom volunteers
  • Recruit and enroll eligible Head Start families
  • Act as bus monitor on rotating basis as needed
