Job summary

Kirkwood Elementary in Coralville, IA is hiring a Preschool Supervisory Paraeducator for 3 hours per day. The position provides support to preschool students under the supervision of the building administrator and teachers, assisting with small-group instruction and daily activities.

Qualified applicants have an AA/BA degree or para certification; post-secondary coursework in education is a plus, and prior child experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during lunch with seating, behavior and dismissal and assist lunch staff with distribution of food.
• Assist with basic student health concerns and general medicine distribution.
• Assist classroom teachers in preparing materials for instruction.
• Respect confidentiality of student records.
• Conform to expectations within the negotiated agreement for Paraeducators
• Assist in providing a positive, healthy environment of appropriate early childhood experiences for each child.
• Supervise and assist the preschool class during outdoor time, preschool bus times
• Other duties as assigned.

JOB GOAL(S):

To assist in meeting the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of students in either an individual or small group setting under the supervision of the building administrator, classroom teacher or designated staff member. To work with an educational team in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Any or all of the following duties may apply to a specific paraeducator position, depending on the needs of the student and the operation of the educational setting.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

175 contract days

Salary and calendar year to be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy of the Iowa City Community School District.

EVALUATION :

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
