Job summary

VOA GNY's Bronx Early Learning Center is seeking a Preschool Special Education Teacher to implement The Creative Curriculum and NYC aligned Prekindergarten standards, guided by each child\'s IEP goals.

The role involves supervising assistants, writing and reviewing IEPs, tracking progress, using ABA/ESL strategies, attending CPSE meetings, and communicating with families.

Qualifications

• MS in Special Education required.
• New York State Certifications in the listed areas.
• Experience aligning instruction to IEP goals and performance standards.

Responsibilities

• Implement The Creative Curriculum and NYC Prekindergarten standards.
• Supervise teacher assistants with individuals or groups in the classroom.
• Write IEPs and monitor progress toward goals.
• Write annual IEP goals and quarterly parent reports.
• Use instructional and behavioral strategies (ABA, ESL) in the classroom.
• Collect and monitor data for behavior plans, IEPs and attendance.
• Attend team meetings and CPSE conferences; communicate with families.
• Follow Early Learning Center policies and supervise staff.

Position: Preschool Special Education Teacher

The Preschool Special Education Teacher implements instruction based on The Creative Curriculum and Prekindergarten Performance Standards, NYC aligned with children’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives. Adheres to the professional standards recommended by the National Association for the Education of Young Children to maintain accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications:

M.S. in Special Education with at least one of the following New York State Certifications

• Students with Disabilities, Birth-Grade 2
• Special Education
• Supplementary Certificate
• Internship Certificate
• Transitional B Certificate
• Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6 (will consider)

Preschool Special Education Teacher Principal Responsibilities:

• Implement the Creative Curriculum.
• Supervise the activities and assignment of the teacher assistants with individual children or groups of children in the classroom.
• Write Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and monitor children’s progress in goal areas.
• Write annual IEP goals for children and Quarterly reports to parents on children’s progress.
• Implement instructional (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis, ESL) and behavioral (group and individual) strategies and methodology in the classroom.
• Collect and monitor data related to individualized behavior plans, IEPs, children’s attendance, and other instructional and administrative areas as needed.
• Attend team meetings and CPSE conferences as needed.
• Make parent contacts, provide for transition of instruction to home, and invite parents for school visits.
• Implement the policies and procedures contained in the Early Learning Center manuals.
• Supervise classroom teacher assistants.
