Lake Roosevelt Elementary in Washington is seeking a Signing Paraprofessional to support a preschool student who is deaf or hard of hearing. The role requires learning basic American Sign Language (ASL) and collaborating with teachers to facilitate communication and access to instruction.

The position is part-time (3 hours per day, 4 days per week) with hours potentially varying by student needs. Prior ASL experience is preferred but not required; training will be provided to develop signing

Qualifications

• Willingness and commitment to learn American Sign Language (ASL).
• Previous experience with ASL or working with deaf or hard of hearing students is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work effectively with preschool-aged children.
• Strong communication, patience, flexibility, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow teacher direction and implement student support strategies.
• Willingness to participate in training to develop signing and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality and work collaboratively with school staff.
• Ability to meet district paraprofessional employment requirements.

Responsabilités

• Assist the student individually and in group settings with classroom activities, assignments, and daily routines.
• Learn and use basic American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication strategies to support the student's needs.
• Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, staff, and peers.
• Support classroom instruction and reinforce learning objectives under the direction of the assigned teacher.
• Assist with adapting classroom materials and activities to meet the student's individual needs.
• Encourage student independence, social interaction, and participation in preschool activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and other staff to provide consistent communication support.
• Participate in training and professional development related to ASL, deaf and hard of hearing education, and student support.
