Job summary

Grosse Pointe Public School System is seeking a Childcare Aide at Barnes to greet children and families, supervise activities, and assist teachers in implementing lessons. Emphasis on safety, positive interactions, and timely diapering when needed.

The position requires 16+ years old, state licensing compliance, background check, TB test, CPR/First Aid, and is based at Barnes with a 40-hour work week (7:15 AM–6:00 PM).

Qualifications

• Must meet minimum State Licensing Requirements.
• Comprehensive Background, signed child abuse form and TB test on file
• Yearly CPR and First Aid Training
• Must be able to adequately carry out all above mentioned job responsibilities.
• Compatible with Director, Assistant Director, Teacher, Assistant Teachers and caregivers.
• Be punctual and in attendance daily.
• Must be at least 16 years old.

Responsibilities

• Completes 16 hours of professional development each calendar year.
• Assists other staff with cleaning and sanitizing responsibilities.
• Other responsibilities as requested.

• Follows all rules and regulations established with the Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing of the Michigan Department of Human Services
• Acts as a positive liaison for parents/guardians as they visit the school
• Complete 16 hours of professional development each calendar year through the attendance of workshops, meetings and conferences.
• Assists other staff with cleaning and sanitizing responsibilities
• Other responsibilities as requested

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk over 60% of the work day in order to supervise children throughout daily activities, walk throughout the school, participate in Gym and Playground activities.
• Must have the physical stamina to care for energetic young children 1-5 years old.
• Required to lift (7 -50 pounds), bend, sit on the floor, run and engage in other physical activities.

Work Year

• Options for 9 or 12 months are available
• Starts September 2026

Working Conditions

• Program hours are 7:15-6:00pm
• Monday-Friday 40 hours
• Staff will work an 8 hour day within that time frame
