Hire Up Recruiting presents a Direct Hire Preschool Cook opportunity in Washington, DC. This full-time role runs 7:00am‑3:30pm, Monday through Friday, year‑round, supporting daily food preparation at a premier preschool.

The position emphasizes food safety, nutrition, and collaboration with the Executive Director and caterer to deliver healthy, kid‑friendly menus while maintaining high cleanliness and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Age 18 years or older.
• High School Diploma.
• At least 1 year of food service experience, preferably in childcare or school setting.
• Food Manager Certification preferred.
• Lift up to 30 pounds.
• Must be eligible for background check.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate the school's vision, mission, values and beliefs at all times.
• Ensure health, safety, care and well‑being of children in compliance with health and safety laws and standards.
• Exhibit integrity, mission focus and team orientation.
• Assist the director with other duties as needed.
• Support the relationship with the school’s food service caterer.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and caterer to deliver nutritious, child‑friendly menus.
• Ensure food from the caterer is accepted daily and stored per health regulations.
• Prepare daily snacks and distribute to classrooms following allergy restrictions.
• Keep all food service items organized, cleaned and stored properly.
• Ensure supplies are stocked and within expiration dates.
• Help maintain overall cleanliness of the facility.

Salary

• $18.50- $19.00/hour pending education, credentials, and professional cook/food-handler experience

Job Responsibilities

• Demonstrate the schools vision, mission, values and beliefs at all times.
• Ensure the health, safety, care and well-being of children at all times and compliance with quality standards in tandem with all local, state and federal laws, standards and regulations.
• Exemplify the highest level of business and personal integrity, is mission driven and has a team orientation at all times.
• Assisting the director with other duties as situations require.
• Supporting the relationship with the food service caterer.
• Partnering with the Executive Director and the caterer to deliver child-friendly, nutritious menus.
• Ensuring food is accepted from caterer each day and stored according to all health and safety regulations.
• Preparing daily snacks.
• Distributing food to every classroom in accordance will all center health, safety and allergy restriction practices.
• Ensuring all food service items are collected from classrooms, cleaned and stored in accordance with health, safety and allergy restriction practices.
• Working in conjunction with the Executive Director to ensure all food service supplies and consumables (snacks and back up food) are well stocked and within their expiration date.
• Ensure entire facility operates at the highest level of cleanliness throughout the day.
• Emptying all waste and diaper containers periodically throughout the day.
• Ensuring all bathrooms are clean and properly stocked.
• Cleaning spills and messes that occur in the natural course of a child friendly environment.
• Supporting educator teams in ensuring classrooms are stocked with supplies.

Qualifications

• REQUIRED Age: must be at least 18 years of age
• REQUIRED Education: High School Diploma
• REQUIRED Experience: At least one year of food service experience, preferably in a childcare facility or school setting
• PREFERRED Certification: Food Manager Certification
• Must be able to lift ~30 pounds
• Must meet background check eligibility
