Job summary

Buckeye Valley Family YMCA is seeking an experienced Preschool Assistant to support the Lead Preschool Teacher in implementing a developmentally appropriate program for children 6 weeks to 5 years old. The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and strong family communication.

The ideal candidate is at least 18 years old with a high school diploma; additional early childhood education credentials are preferred. CPR/First Aid/AED training is required, and prior child-care experience is valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor in Child Development or Early Childhood Education preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications required.
• Experience with children in developmental settings preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and written skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain staff/child ratio as per licensing and director guidance.
• Adhere to health and safety requirements and risk management guidelines.
• Assist with setup and maintenance of a safe, developmentally appropriate classroom.
• Develop positive relationships with children and families; share program information.
• Maintain accurate records (CACFP, attendance, sign-in/out, incident reports).
• Assist with daily lesson/activity plans, setup, and cleanup.
• Supervise children, classroom, and activities; report concerns promptly.
