Emmanuel Faith Community Church Preschool is seeking an Assistant Director to partner with the Preschool Director in supervising an Infant/Toddler and early childhood program, guided by biblical teachings. You will mentor teachers, coordinate schedules, and oversee staff and parent communications.

You will help develop educational standards, plan developmentally appropriate activities, and ensure compliance with licensing while fostering spiritual growth among staff and students.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to EFCC’s Statement of Faith, Mission, & Values.
  • Three years teaching preschool-age children or Infant/Toddler experience.
  • EMSA First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Background check and fingerprinting per Ca. State Law.
  • BA or AA in ECE with 24 units including admin/supervision units.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Preschool Director with supervision and oversight of an early childhood program, including Infant/Toddler center, aligned with biblical teachings.
  • Plan, direct and monitor instructional methods and curriculum implementation.
  • Create daily schedules, snack prep, and coordinate staff breaks; implement playground schedules.
  • Mentor, train, and observe teachers; maintain staff & parent communications.
  • Cover classrooms as needed to ensure licensing compliance and supervise safe activities.
  • Develop weekly lesson plans, assess development, and adapt curriculum to inform instruction.
  • Monitor programs for compliance with regulations and maintain inventories.
  • Identify educational needs of staff/volunteers and develop/train through formal classes or programs.
  • Communicate vision with Preschool Director to set long-range objectives and spiritual transformation goals.

Description

In a Sentence:

Assistant Director partners with preschool staff & parents to make disciples of children who will honor God by living like Jesus, supports the operations of the Preschool by filling in as site supervisor during operating hours when the Preschool Director is offsite, providing mentoring/training for teaching staff, and to support the Preschool Director in operational tasks of the Preschool & Infant/Toddler center.

Reports To:

  • Preschool Director

Time Commitment:

40 hours/week, plus or including:

  • Monthly family events
  • Preschool Performances, Family days, etc.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists the Preschool Director with supervision and oversight of an early childhood education program including Infant/toddler center, together with biblical Christian teachings, including, but not limited to:
    • Collaborate with the Preschool Director to set educational standards/goals and establish procedures for their implementation of the Curriculum, assessments & Portfolios
    • Plan, direct and monitor instructional methods, ensuring each child receives a balanced, appropriate learning experience that reflects the biblical teachings of EFCC and employs a developmentally appropriate curriculum
    • Assist in creating daily schedules, snack preparation and coordinating staff breaks. Also assists in implementing playground schedules
    • Responsible for mentoring, training and observing teachers
    • Staff and parent communications
  • Covers classrooms when needed to ensure compliance with Community Care licensing regulations.
    • Creates weekly lesson plans, implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum, actively supervises children, and provides age appropriate activities to promote the child’s overall development
    • Assesses children’s development and uses information to inform curriculum and instruction.
    • Creates a safe & healthy environment and maintains cleanliness.
  • Monitor:
    • programs to determine their efficiency and compliance with state, local and federal regulations; recommend any necessary modifications
    • Implementation of Instruction and environment and gives feedback accordingly
    • Keeps inventory of educational supplies
  • Coordinate Training, Work, and Activities:
    • Identify the educational needs of other staff/volunteers, by observation, and develop/train/teach, through formal education classes or training programs
    • Makes sure all Preschool staff/volunteers are trained on the emergency drills and procedures
    • Encourage staff to work together to accomplish tasks, by nurturing constructive working relationships with them and maintaining them over time.
    • Keep staff regularly informed through open communication
  • Cast Vision and develop strategic plans:
    • Assist Preschool Director in establishing long-range objectives and the actions to achieve them. Work with Preschool Director to coordinate, implement short/long range objectives that will result in that will result in spiritual transformation of staff and students
    • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish your work

  • Is willing to develop professionally as well as personally and spiritually by personal study, attending seminars classes, retreats etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Sitting and standing:The ability to remain in a stationary position for a majority of the workday is a common requirement. Occasional standing and walking to move around the office is also standard.
  • Fine motor skills:Many office jobs require the use of hands for fine manipulation, such as typing on a keyboard, handling small objects, or using a computer mouse.
  • Vision:Good close-up vision is necessary for activities like reading documents, reviewing data, using a computer screen for extended periods, and monitoring students and their environment.
  • Hearing and speech:The ability to communicate clearly and listen to information, both in person and over the phone, is essential.
  • Lifting and carrying:While heavy lifting is rare, some positions may require occasionally lifting, carrying, or moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds. This may include physical transfer of special needs students.
  • Other movements:Tasks like reaching, bending, and stooping to access files or other objects may be required occasionally.
  • Stamina: Ability to work in a dynamic environment that may involve constant interruptions and physical activity.

Requirements

  • Preferred -BA Degree with emphasis in Early Childhood Education or Child Development that would require a minimum of 24 units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development including core units required and 6 semester units of 6 units administration/ 2 units supervision
    • Completion of three (3) years teaching preschool age children.
  • Must have at least 3 semester or equivalent quarter units related to the care of infants
  • Minimally -AA Degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with a minimum of 24 units in Early Childhood Education (ECE), including core units required and 6 semester units of 6 units administration/ 2 units supervision
    • Completion of three (3) years of experience teaching preschool-age children or Infant/Toddler children.
  • Must have at least 3 semester or equivalent quarter units related to the care of infants
  • Complete EMSA certified First Aid and CPR training and Preventative Health & Nutrition
  • Complete Physical with clearance to work in an early childhood classroom, negative TB test, Proof of Immunizations (specifically Pertussis, and MMR), and Annual Proof of Influenza vaccine (or statement declining)
  • Complete and pass CDSS Mandated Reporter Certification.
  • Agree to a background check and fingerprinting according to Ca. State Law & Clearance must be issued
