Job summary

Metropolitan Market is seeking a Prepared Foods Lead to support the Team Leader in daily operations, product management, and guest service. You’ll help educate staff on products and uphold high quality and presentation standards in the Prepared Foods Department.

The role emphasizes leadership, training, and merchandising, with a focus on timely preparation, inventory control, and exceptional customer experiences in a fast-paced environment.

THE ROLE

As a key leader within the Prepared Foods team, the Prepared Foods Lead has a breadth of responsibilities that support the Team Leader and Assistant Team Leader in fulfilling all department operations (product management, food safety, quality control, sales generation, guest service). In this role, you help to ensure team members are educated about our products and that exceptional product quality and aesthetic presentation are upheld within our Prepared Foods & Cheese departments. Our fast-paced environment requires our Leads to successfully prioritize a variety of tasks (administrative and service to our guests) throughout each workday.

MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU’D DO

• Complete our Prepared Foods training program to build the knowledge and skills needed for success. The program is 24–32 hours, depending on role, and begins immediately following orientation at a designated Metropolitan Market training store.
• Provide outstanding customer service and readily communicate product information to increase sales, meet revenue goals, and best serve guests.
• Assist Team Leader with ordering products for the Prepared Foods Department; maintain product inventory at a level that promotes creative and effective sales merchandising and maximizes sales potential.
• Consistently achieve all food preparation guidelines, including full compliance with established recipe program; ensure prepared food consistency and portion control.
• Assist the Team Leader and Assistant Team Leader with developing and maintaining product displays that create an exciting marketplace and impact customer buying trends.
• Assume primary responsibility for store-level vendor relations; readily participate in product promotions and focuses.
• Maintain stocking standards that ensure high product quality, including rotation procedures. Incorporate cleaning with stocking and rotation requirements.
• Prevent internal and external loss, conduct physical inventories, and practice inventory control.
• Ensure all outdated products are pulled, recorded, and discarded from the Prepared Foods sales areas daily; determine proper replacement product quantities and promptly restocks in compliance within established guidelines.

For this role, we seek candidates with a high level of self-motivation and initiative who can problem solve and have proven success working in a diverse team environment. Successful candidates will have demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and Prepared Foods quality output while working within deadlines; they will possess excellent time management and organizational skills.

Our Prepared Foods Leads possess creative merchandising and display skills and have comprehensive product knowledge with a history of training team members. Hired team members will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of food, including ingredients, applications, pronunciations, and culinary skills.

Candidates must possess knowledge of food safety, HACCP/Department of Health guidelines, inventory control, gross profits, and labor percentages. Ideally, our new Prepared Foods Lead will possess leadership skills, and the ability to effectively delegate and follow-through. One year of restaurant or deli experience is required.
