Job summary

  • Manage logistics of exhibition installations, including scheduling, transportation, and storage.
  • Maintain exhibition spaces to be clean and welcoming for visitors.
  • Assist with development of exhibition materials such as signage and labels.
  • Stay informed about best practices in exhibition design and preparation.

Job Purpose:The Preparator & Designer at Telfair Museum of Art Inc is responsible for the design, preparation, and installation of exhibitions and displays, ensuring that artworks are presented in a visually compelling and educational manner. This role involves collaborating with curators and other museum staff to create engaging environments that enhance the visitor experience while maintaining the integrity and safety of the artworks.Key Responsibilities:Design and implement exhibition layouts and displays that align with the museum's artistic vision and curatorial goals.Prepare artworks for exhibition, including handling, mounting, framing, and lighting.Collaborate with curators, artists, and other museum staff to develop and execute exhibition concepts.Ensure the safety and preservation of artworks during installation, display, and de-installation.Manage the logistics of exhibition installations, including scheduling, transportation, and storage of artworks.Maintain exhibition spaces, ensuring they are clean, organized, and conducive to a positive visitor experience.Assist with the development of exhibition-related materials, such as signage and labels.Stay informed about industry best practices in exhibition design and preparation, incorporating new techniques and technologies as appropriate.Required Education:Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Design, Art History, or a related field.Required Experience:Minimum of 3 years of experience in art preparation and exhibition design within a museum or gallery setting.Proven track record of successfully designing and installing art exhibits.Experience collaborating with curators, artists, and other museum professionals.Required Skills and Abilities:Strong understanding of art handling and preservation techniques.Excellent design skills with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.Ability to conceptualize and execute innovative exhibition designs.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with artists, curators, and other stakeholders.Problem-solving skills to address installation challenges and ensure the safety and integrity of artworks.
