Job summary

Recess Hotel & Club in Savannah, GA is seeking a reliable Prep Cook for our opening culinary team. You’ll help establish kitchen standards, rhythms, and daily food prep across operations to ensure great service from day one.

Qualifications

• Previous prep cook or kitchen experience preferred.
• Basic knife skills and familiarity with common kitchen equipment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow recipes and production standards consistently.
• Reliable team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Effective communication and time-management skills.
• Interest in food and hospitality and growth within the team.
• Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients and components according to recipes and Chef direction.
• Wash, cut, portion, measure, and organize ingredients for daily service.
• Support food production across the kitchen including sauces, vegetables, proteins, and garnishes.
• Label, date, rotate, and store food per safety standards.
• Maintain clean, organized prep and work areas.
• Communicate prep needs and shortages to Chefs and cooks.
• Assist Line Cooks and culinary team to support smooth service.
• Follow all sanitation and kitchen safety standards.

About the role

The Culinary team at Recess Hotel & Club is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Prep Cook to join our opening team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes to keep the kitchen prepared, organized, and ready for great service.

As part of the opening culinary team, you’ll help establish the standards, rhythm, and culture of a brand-new kitchen while supporting daily food preparation across our culinary operations.

This is an onsite position located at Recess Hotel & Club in Savannah, Georgia.

If hired into this role, you will receive a $1,000 one-time sign-on bonus . Minimum tenure requirements apply.

What you'll do

• Prepare ingredients and menu components according to recipes, prep lists, and Chef direction
• Wash, cut, portion, measure, and organize ingredients for daily service
• Support food production across the kitchen, including sauces, vegetables, proteins, garnishes, and other prepared items
• Label, date, rotate, and properly store food products in accordance with food safety standards
• Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked prep and work areas
• Communicate prep needs, product levels, and shortages to Chefs and fellow cooks
• Assist Line Cooks and other culinary team members as needed to support smooth service
• Follow all sanitation, food handling, cleanliness, and kitchen safety standards

Qualifications

• Previous prep cook, kitchen, restaurant, hotel, catering, or food production experience preferred
• Basic knife skills and familiarity with common kitchen equipment preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to follow recipes, prep lists, and production standards consistently
• Reliable team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
• Effective communication and time-management skills
• Interest in food, hospitality, and growing within a professional culinary environment
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Ability to perform frequent standing, bending, lifting, and other physical movement required in a professional kitchen
