Prep Cook / Dining Services Assistant

Department: Culinary Services

Reports To: Dining Services Director / Executive Director

Position Summary

The Prep Cook / Dining Services Assistant supports the Culinary Services team by preparing ingredients, assisting with meal production, serving meals to residents, and maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming dining environment. This position plays an important role in delivering high-quality dining experiences while promoting resident satisfaction and hospitality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Food Preparation
  • Prepare ingredients for meals, including washing, cutting, chopping, measuring, and portioning food items.
  • Assist cooks with meal preparation according to recipes, menus, and dietary requirements.
  • Prepare salads, desserts, sandwiches, and other menu items as assigned.
  • Label, date, and properly store food items following food safety guidelines.
  • Assist with inventory rotation using First In, First Out (FIFO) practices.
Meal Service
  • Assist with meal service in the dining room and other designated areas.
  • Serve meals and beverages in a professional, courteous, and resident-focused manner.
  • Ensure residents receive meals that meet dietary needs and preferences.
  • Refill beverages and respond promptly to resident requests during meal service.
  • Help create a warm, welcoming dining experience for residents and guests.
Cleaning and Sanitation
  • Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and food preparation equipment as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations, kitchen equipment, dining areas, and food storage areas.
  • Follow all local, state, and company sanitation, health, and safety standards.
  • Dispose of waste and recyclables according to established procedures.
Resident Service and Teamwork
  • Interact respectfully and positively with residents, families, visitors, and team members.
  • Support a culture of hospitality, dignity, and person-centered service.
  • Assist with special events, community functions, and catering needs as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with the Culinary Services team to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
