Job summary

Kipling Meadows Senior Living in Arvada, CO is seeking a Prep Cook to assist in meal preparation under supervision. This entry-level role focuses on developing cooking skills by following standardized recipes and preparing ingredients for service.

Responsibilities include portion control, maintaining clean work areas, proper food handling and storage, recording temperatures, and supporting dishwashing and serving as needed. This is a part-time, entry-level position.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of food preparation and kitchen safety.
  • Promote teamwork in providing services to residents.
  • Knowledge of food handling and kitchen safety standards.
  • Operation of kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer, etc.)

  • Record temperatures and items in storage and on delivery.
  • Report any on-the-job injuries prior to end of shift.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.

Position Overview


This entry level position assists in meal preparation by completing food preparation tasks. This position works under the direction of more experienced cooks or the chef, and is focused on developing skills.



  • Prepare and portion food ingredients following standardized recipes.

  • Maintain portion control to meet budgetary requirements.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and kitchen/storage areas.

  • Ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control.

  • Cook basic menu items (e.g., soups, vegetables, breakfast items).

  • Prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery. Ensure proper storage of all delivered foods and ingredients.

  • Assist with dishwashing and kitchen sanitation, as needed.

  • Participate in beverage or food serving, as needed.

  • Notify manager of food supply needs and malfunctioning equipment or appliances.

  • Assist in the recording of Ready – to – Use – food items into the TELS website, ensuring three items are recorded with each meal.

  • Record cooler, freezer and dish machine temperatures in the TELS website.

  • Report any on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs.

  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Education, Experience, and Other Requirements



  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Basic understanding of food preparation and kitchen safety


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required



  • Practice safety in working with and around kitchen equipment.

  • Promote teamwork in providing services to residents.

  • Knowledge of food handling and kitchen safety standards

  • Operation of kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer, etc.)

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Certificate in food-preparation training is preferred
