Job summary

CONSUMER DIRECTED SERVICES INC. is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse to float between PACU and pre-operative departments in Winston-Salem, NC.

You will perform comprehensive assessments, administer medications, monitor vitals, manage pain and nausea, and educate patients on procedures and recovery expectations. The role offers flexible scheduling, primarily M-F with possible evening or early morning shifts based on unit needs; current RN license in North Carolina required with prior PACU/ICU

Qualifications

• Experience in PACU, pre-op, ICU, or critical care.
• Current RN license in North Carolina.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree and 1+ year of relevant experience.
• Refresher course if license inactive for 5+ years.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments and document medical history, allergies, medications, and baseline vitals.
• Initiate IV access, administer pre-operative meds, and manage post-operative pain and nausea.
• Educate patients about procedures, anesthesia, and post-operative care.
• Monitor airway, respiratory, circulatory, neurological status, and pain during recovery.
• Recognize and respond to complications; assess surgical sites, drains, and dressings.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs to ensure stability.

Role Overview:

This PRN nursing position involves providing care in both the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and pre-operative departments, with responsibilities focused on patient assessment, preparation, and recovery.

Responsibilities Include

• Conducting comprehensive pre-operative assessments including medical history, allergies, medications, and baseline vital signs.
• Initiating intravenous access, administering pre-operative medications, and managing post-operative symptoms such as pain and nausea.
• Educating patients about procedures, anesthesia, and post-operative care.
• Monitoring airway, respiratory, circulatory, neurological status, and pain levels during recovery.
• Performing ongoing assessments, recognizing complications, and responding appropriately.
• Assessing surgical sites, drains, and dressings for signs of issues.
• Monitoring cardiac rhythms and vital signs, ensuring patient stability.

Qualifications And Skills

• Prerequisite experience in PACU, pre-op, ICU, or critical care.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a current RN license in the appropriate state.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of relevant experience.
• Refresher course required if RN license has been inactive for five or more years without recent licensure.
