MnDOT in Detroit Lakes, MN seeks a Preliminary Design Supervisor / Engineer Senior to supervise highway construction documentation and provide engineering expertise. Telework up to 2 days weekly with in-office policy alignment.

The role supports district design delivery, ensuring compliance with MnDOT standards, while mentoring staff and coordinating with consultants. Licensure and project-management experience are required for the Senior level.

• ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degree or equivalent is required.

Preliminary Design Supervisor | Engineer Senior Salary Range:$39.06 – $57.47 / hourly; $81,557 – $119,997 / annually | Engineer 2 Graduate Salary Range:$32.13 – $47.49 / hourly; $67,087 – $99,159 / annually

This position is located at the Detroit Lakes Headquarters and has the flexibility to telework up to 2 days per week or work in the office every day. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

Our Preliminary Design Supervisor position exists to assist in supervision and delivery in the District Design Section. The position provides engineering expertise and supervision for the delivery of highway construction/transportation plans and documentation to ensure compliance with MnDOT standards and policies.

Here are the Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer Senior:

To qualify for Engineer Senior, applicants must meet all the following:

• Licensure as a professional Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design(AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

Qualifications must also demonstrate:

• Experience managing transportation projects.
• Experience applying engineering principles, practices, techniques and methods.
• Experience coordinator and/or directing the work of staff and/or consultants.

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer 2 Graduate:

To qualify, Engineer 2 Graduate applicants must meet all the following:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC.
• A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
• Two years post-graduation civil engineering work.
  OR
• A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or it’s equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC AND
• A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
• One (1) year of post-graduate civil engineering work.
  OR
• Received a passing score on the Minnesota Principals & Practices of Civil Engineering (PE) Exam.
