We are committed to building in ways that are technologically advanced, sustainable, scalable, and equitable. We energize infrastructure, careers, communities, and the future.

About the Position

As the Prefabrication Designer, you will play a key role in advancing ArchKey’s prefabrication operations by developing detailed, code‑compliant, and constructible design solutions that translate project intent into efficient prefabrication deliverables. The role supports both standard and advanced prefabrication applications, including wall rough, lighting control systems, conduit support systems, equipment assemblies, and electrical room build‑outs. You will collaborate closely with project teams, field leadership, VDC, and prefabrication production teams to ensure all prefabrication documentation improves field efficiency, standardization, and quality.

Responsibilities
  • Prefabrication Design & Detailing:
    • Develop detailed prefabrication build sheets, layout drawings, riser diagrams, and assembly diagrams for wall rough, lighting control systems, and standard prefabrication packages.
    • Review construction drawings for NEC compliance, constructability, and alignment with prefabrication standards.
    • Use Bluebeam and Excel to create, revise, and annotate prefabrication documentation; familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit is a plus.
    • Prepare material take‑offs and support procurement coordination for all prefabrication assemblies.
    • Maintain organized documentation, version control, and approval tracking for all design deliverables.
    • Partner closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and Prefabrication Shop teams to ensure deliverables align with project goals and schedules.
    • Attend prefabrication, coordination, and planning meetings to support design intent, sequencing, and field efficiency.
    • Work with Prefabrication Shop Leads to optimize assembly layouts, build sequencing, and packaging for efficient delivery and installation.
    • Perform self‑checks and participate in peer reviews prior to releasing design packages for production.
    • Ensure all prefabrication designs meet company standards, NEC requirements, and field constructability expectations.
  • Lighting Controls Detailing:
    • Develop prefabrication build sheets, riser diagrams, and layouts for lighting control systems, including occupancy sensors, dimming systems, relay panels, and smart lighting devices.
    • Translate design intent from project documents into detailed, constructible prefabrication packages for lighting controls.
    • Coordinate with Procurement to verify material selections, substitutions, and lead times for lighting control components.
    • Ensure all lighting control documentation complies with NEC and project specifications.
    • Collaborate with other designers to ensure lighting control systems integrate seamlessly with related assemblies such as wall rough and power distribution.
  • Collaboration, Quality, and Continuous Improvement:
    • Collaborate with VDC to incorporate redlines, as‑built updates, and digital coordination models into prefabrication packages.
    • Gather and document field feedback and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement in prefabrication design quality and constructability.
    • Partner with Quality Coordinators and Lead Designers to align advanced prefabrication packages with company standards.
    • Contribute to the development and standardization of prefabrication assemblies and catalog items for reuse across projects and regions.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to field, shop, and design personnel on prefabrication standards, tools, and best practices.
    • Identify and develop new prefabrication opportunities that enhance safety, reduce labor hours, or improve installation efficiency.
  • Safety and Efficiency
    • Make decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
    • Utilize LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
    • Promote and model the company mission, vision, and values through sound and ethical business practices, championing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology, Electrical Design, or related experience.
  • Journeyman Inside Wireman certification or equivalent electrical field experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical prefabrication, detailing, or design roles.

  • Prior experience supporting prefabrication shops, VDC coordination, or field installation teams.
  • Strong understanding of electrical installations, lighting control systems, prefabrication methods, and NEC requirements.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, one‑line diagrams, specifications, and schematics.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
