Jacobs is seeking a driven and curious Preconstruction Manager to join our team in Houston. You will support the preconstruction lead, coordinate across design, procurement, and construction management, and drive planning strategies to ensure timely information flow and value-driven solutions.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years in industrial/commercial construction, with up to 50% travel across North America. A hybrid work environment and collaboration with multiple U.S.

  • Knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance testing/reporting.

As a Preconstruction Manager, your duties will include the following
  • Support the preconstruction lead on various assigned tasks involved in preconstruction planning deliverables including developing reports and presentations
  • Be a key contributor and knowledge base for the design and other team members.
  • Lead advanced work planning efforts including strategy development and execution with design, procurement, and construction management teams to ensure efficient and timely flow of information
  • Driving collaboration between various team members and stakeholders
  • Develop equipment MIMO (Move-in/Move Out) plans
  • Develop mobilization plans and construction sequence strategies
  • Support the development of turn over and commissioning strategies
  • Lead constructability reviews during all phases of design.
  • Support the development of modularization and prefabrication strategies
  • Support estimate development and recommend various opportunities to optimize of provide value driven solutions.
  • Develop subcontracting and procurement strategies in collaboration with the construction management and procurement teams.
  • Support the procurement team with executing strategies for work packages including bid package development, evaluation, and pre-award alignment.
  • Develop required at site (RAS) dates to equipment procurement planning.
  • Support development of Level 1-3 project schedules during preconstruction
  • Support the development of 4D visualizations
  • Support the development of comprehensive site logistics plans include utility, offsite or other requirements.
  • Coordinate with Jacobs safety, quality, project services, and technical services groups to ensure a comprehensive preconstruction planning process.
  • Maintain risk registers and support development of mitigation plans.
  • Provide any other support required to successfully execute the preconstruction phase
  • Support the project as required as the preconstruction phase transitions into construction execution.
  • Maintain various project metrics, dashboards and report for project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Work to build a cooperative partnership between the client, contractor, and all stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of project issues and the overall success of the project.

Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in either Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent degree; or equivalent years of experience in lieu of degree
  • 10+ years of experience in managing construction projects related to industrial and/or commercial facilities. Life Science construction experience is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of general construction activity sequencing and execution
  • Experience with 3D modeling software and time physically present on active construction projects
  • Experience with managing project or scope packages
  • Experience with developing a project schedule including optimizing construction sequencing.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance testing/reporting
  • Knowledge of the commissioning and qualification process as it specifically relates to MEP systems
  • Working knowledge and background in management of Project Controls and Procurement strategies and day-to-day management.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to support project and client needs during planning, design, procurement, and construction phases. Travel requirements will vary based on project needs and may be up to 50% of working time, including extended periods at client sites, construction sites, fabrication facilities, and project offices throughout North America. Travel frequency may fluctuate based on project lifecycle and business demands.
  • This position supports project teams and stakeholders located across multiple U.S. regions and time zones. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively within a hybrid environment, balancing remote work with in-person participation for project meetings, workshops, client engagements, design reviews, constructability reviews, and execution planning sessions as required. Flexibility to support meetings, deliverables, and project activities outside the candidate's local time zone is expected to accommodate project and client needs across North America.

Location Houston, TX (Hybrid). Supports Life Sciences projects throughout North America. Candidate may work remotely when project needs allow but must be available for in-person meetings, workshops, client engagements, and site assignments as required.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Working knowledge of design and pre-construction, building systems/components and technology, contract management, project delivery methods, team building and client relationship building.
  • Advanced knowledge of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems, architectural systems, clean room knowledge a plus, and general building construction & maintenance
  • Knowledge and experience with implementation of LEAN strategies and technologies in project execution, including; Last Planner System (LPS), 5S Construction and off-site manufacturing (OSM) construction.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with updating of project schedules from Level 1 thru Level 4 detail, include use and operation of scheduling software; Primavera (P6), MS Project or other.
  • Working knowledge in construction project sequencing and ability to utilize 3D/4D technologies such as BIM360, REVIT or other.

The base salary range for this position is $144,600.00 to $245,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
