Job summary

Scott Humphrey Corporation in Greensboro, NC is seeking an experienced Estimator to lead the estimating and preconstruction efforts on design-phase cost estimates for municipal and commercial projects ranging from $10M to $80M.

You will read drawings, geo-tech reports and specifications, develop unit prices, perform quantity take-offs, solicit bids, write RFIs, and prepare project schedules in P6 to support GMP budgets.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of estimating and preconstruction experience.
• Hard bid municipal and commercial project exposure preferred.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and specs.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead estimating and preconstruction on design-phase cost estimates.
• Read drawings, geo-tech reports, and specs to build accurate estimates.
• Identify utility conflicts and unit-price development.
• Perform quantity take-offs for Pipe, Concrete, and Sitework.
• Solicit subs/suppliers via phone and email; write RFIs.
• Create project budgets (GMP) and develop project schedules in P6.
• Coordinate with vendors and maintain proposal databases.
• Support pre/post construction reviews.

Primary Responsibilities

• Estimating and lead estimating group on design phase cost estimate
• Ability to read drawings, geo-tech reports and specifications
• Identify Utility conflicts and Bypass areas
• Perform quantity take-off of Pipe & Appurtenances/Concrete/Sitework, requiring quantity counts, linear quantity measurement
• Ability to formulate a unit price as needed
• Solicit Subcontractor/Supplier participation via phone and/or E-mail
• Write RFI’s to Engineers
• Proficient in scope analysis, ability to estimate deficiencies as needed
• Project RFQ and RFP development
• Establish project database for proposal
• Create construction schedule for estimates in P6
• Coordinate and establish the project budget (GMP)
• Projects ranging from 10 Million to 80 Million, Hard Deadlines, and must be able to multi-task efficiently
• Developing and maintaining long term beneficial relationships with key vendors and subcontractors
• Participate in pre and post construction review

.Preferences/Qualifications

• 5-10 years estimating and PreCon experience
• Previous experience with Hard Bid Municipal Commercial Projects
• Ability to understand construction terminology
• Strong communication and organizational skills Computer proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and knowledge of MC2 preferred
• Valid Driver License and ability to commute to job site
