Job Summary

Dynalectric Company San Diego is hiringa Preconstruction Manager. The Preconstruction Manager leads all preconstruction activities for electrical construction projects from initial pursuit through project turnover. This role is responsible for delivering accurate, competitive, and comprehensive project estimates while ensuring technical alignment, constructability, and strategic positioning for successful execution. The preconstruction manager acts as a critical bridge between clients, design teams, and internal operations. The Electrical Preconstruction Manager ensures that project scope, budget, and execution strategy are fully coordinated prior to construction start

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Include the following. Other duties will likely be assigned.

  • Attends estimating meetings, project meetings, meets with customers/clients to discuss bid status, present proposals, negotiate bids, and present/solve project issues.

  • Performs job walks to observe any field conditions that may affect construction, impact the prospective bid, and/or pre-construction designs and build services. Meets with general contractors and site personnel, as needed.

  • Creates and understands conceptual designs of electrical systems.

  • Perform design/build, conceptual, and budget estimates; working on multiple projects concurrently and under strict deadlines.

  • Analyze blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and other documentation at various levels of design to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.

  • Review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.

  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.

  • Review contract and bid documents; review and understand scope for project turnover.

  • Builds market position by locating, developing, defining, negotiating and closing business relationships.

  • Follow up on new business opportunities and initiate meetings.

  • Maintain relationships with customers, General Contractors, vendors and subcontractors.

  • Quantitative take-off and computer entry.

  • Prepare scope letters and proposals.

  • Coordinate the efforts of junior and staff-level resources in performing take-offs, issuing bills of material to vendors and obtaining subcontractor and/or vendor quotes.

  • Assist construction scheduler with scheduling input as required.

  • Ensure documents are centrally saved in the company’s drive within the confidential estimating folder(s); maintain electrical estimating software with updated pricing, etc.

  • Assist project managers with takeoffs and pricing changes in work.

  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Vice President of Preconstruction with recommendation for resolution.

  • Comply with all Company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.

  • Attend conferences, meetings and industry events

  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by executives.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • 3-6 years’ experience in estimating/preconstruction services or 5+ years related experience in the construction industry. Design/Build experience preferred.

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or construction related field desirable.

  • Knowledge of electrical systems, the construction industry, construction materials, market conditions, trade practices, and contract documentation.

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines.


COMPUTER SKILLS


  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel)

  • Familiarity with Accubid and other electrical, technical, or construction programs.

  • Familiarity with project management/document control software.

  • Familiarity with construction/financial software packages.
