Job summary

Advanced Input Systems in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, seeks an SMT Inspector to ensure the quality of SMT PCBA assemblies used in HMI products. You will perform inspections at key SMT stages, verify conformance to internal standards and customer specifications, and document results meticulously.

You will use microscopes, AOI, and gauges to assess placement, solder quality, and cleanliness, and collaborate with production and engineering to implement corrective actions and lean improvements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
• Experience visually inspecting electronic assemblies under magnification or microscope.
• Ability to read diagrams, BOMs, engineering drawings, MAPS, and quality standards.
• Familiarity with IPC-A-610 and related standards is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with production and engineering teams.
• Computer proficiency for entering inspection results and accessing work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual and instrument-assisted inspection of SMT PCB assemblies at key production stages.
• Use microscopes, AOI machines, and gauges to assess placement, solder quality, polarity, and cleanliness.
• Compare boards against documentation including BOMs and engineering drawings.
• Identify, document, and communicate defects to the manufacturing lead and quality teams.
• Support corrective action by helping diagnose root causes and suggesting Lean improvements.
• Route units for rework or repair based on inspection results.
• Maintain inspection records and logs consistent with quality systems.
• Ensure equipment calibration before use and maintain clean work areas.
