Job summary

Coherent Corp. is seeking a manufacturing operator for diamond flycutting of plano and cylinder mirror components. You will measure critical dimensions, set up machines, and document process variations to ensure first-pass yield.

The role requires attention to detail, ability to read drawings, and a proactive problem-solving mindset. Offered shifts include Afternoon and Midnight with a clean room environment and high-precision metrology equipment. Candidates must be U.S.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0–2 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Citizenship or eligible status required due to ITAR compliance.
  • Ability to read drawings and engineering notes.

Responsibilities

  • Operate diamond flycutter machines to machine plano and lens components per drawings and specs.
  • Control part thickness and verify measurements to meet specifications.
  • Set up machines correctly and balance flywheels and head tilt as required.
  • Maintain process notes and follow work instructions; document variations and yield.
  • Work independently to troubleshoot minor issues and report to supervisor.
  • Ensure safety practices, clean and organized work areas, and proper maintenance scheduling.

Shifts Available

Afternoon: 3 PM - 11 PM
Midnight: 11 PM - 7 AM

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plano and cylinder mirrors and lens components are machined to the size requirements of drawings, engineering specifications and/or Coherent standard specifications on a diamond flycut machine
  • All parts must be handled in proper manner as to prevent damage to the parts
  • Measurement of critical dimensions of the part prior to processing to determine if the part will be within the blank specifications
  • Responsible for controlling and verifying part thickness and figure. Parts are routinely measured to guarantee that all parts produced meet specification
  • Understanding and utilizing the correct machine setup
  • Tool set-up for various materials is performed according to established procedures. Flywheel is accurately balanced and head tilt adjustments made
  • Process notes are maintained to record key manufacturing parameters and issues. Work instructions are followed. Work order report sheets are utilized to note process variation. First time yield is accurately documented
  • The operator must be able to work independently to solve minor problems on a diamond flycutter; where appropriate the nature and solution to the problem should be reported to the supervisor or shift lead
  • Production activities are wanded accurately. Quality documentation is completed as required and the machine maintenance and incident reports are completed when necessary
  • Develop a good understanding for the QA procedures associated with testing of flycut diamond turned components.
  • Opportunities to multitask and run multiple machines to ensure maximum production output without making errors
  • Errors and accidents are reported immediately to the shift lead, maintenance supervisor, or engineers. Root cause analysis and corrective actions are fully supported
  • Operators are required to verify all setups to ensure the machine will not crash
  • All Coherent and departmental safety practices and procedures are followed at all times
  • All areas are maintained in an organized manner
  • Ensure equipment is maintained based on preventative schedules
  • Maintenance requirements and machine or utility anomalies are reported promptly to the supervisor
Education & Experience
  • High school graduate or GED
  • 0-2 years' manufacturing experience

Due to ITAR compliance, this position requires candidates to be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident Alien, or Protected Individual per 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
